RUNNING OUT OF SPACE?

If you've had the same Gmail ID for a long time, you're probably running out of storage space — but clearing through your mails one at a time is a chore.

Luckily, Gmail has some useful tools to search through your mails, that you can use to find the right things to delete.

In the search bar, you can enter modifiers to find matching files. Larger is a useful one you can apply to find big mails to delete.

You can tweak the number to help find the right files. We changed 3M to 5M for files over 5MB, but you can make that 10M or 15M or even higher if you like.

Another very useful modifier is Before, which shows mails before a date. You can set exact dates, not just years or months, in the YYYY/DD/MM format

After works just like before, and the cool thing is that you can use modifiers together so you can add both to show all mails from between the dates.

Has:Attachment is a favourite because it shows only mails with attachments, which is really useful if you're trying to clear up space.

Now, put all these different modifiers together to find, for example, old mails before 2010, with attachments, using over 1MB, that you can then delete!
