How to Get the Best Gear in Destiny 2

Leveling Explained

Destiny 2's leveling system is a bit different, as there are only power levels, which is an average of all your gear. Every player now starts at power level 1050 and there is a cap for each level ? soft cap (lvl 1200), hard cap (lvl 1250) and pinnacle cap (lvl 1260).

Don't infuse anything

You'll constantly filter through new equipment as you grind to level 1200. While its lucrative to infuse your gear, you'll be raising your power level frequently and gains you'll get from infusing will quickly become invalid

Dismantle old items

In Destiny 2, you dismantle items instead of selling. Scrap any old green or blue drops with power levels below your most powerful items. Rare and legendary drops yield gunsmith materials, and if you give him better parts, you get powerful gear.

You can have a total of three characters in Destiny 2 ? a Titan, a Warlock, and a Hunter ? and if you play all three, you get the chance to leapfrog your characters by sharing equipment between them.

Complete Weekly Milestones

Once you reach the soft cap (lvl 1250) things slow down a lot, so you won't get better gear by playing the game. Weekly objectives and milestones are your friends and if you take a look at the director you'll find golden marks which will help you further.

Complete Strikes

Strikes are a collection of longer missions that have their own playlist on your director. Each week, the playlist will have a different ?burn? active, which means that a certain element's power will be boosted during the strikes.

Complete Quests

After completing the story campaign in Destiny 2 and in the expansions, you can return to each planet and open a new multistage mission called a quest. Quests can often drop legendary and exotic weapons, much above your power level.

Post hard cap

Hitting the hard cap lets you play raids that require six Guardians to complete. You'll find the best possible gear here. You can also try crucible, which is shorter than raids, and nightfalls, which are souped-up versions of strikes.
