Consumer Reports Ranks LG as the No.1 OLED TV Brand in North America

The premium TV segment is an exciting space to be in right now. With HDR going mainstream with not just Blu-Ray media, but also streaming services and home gaming consoles, the demand for high quality panels that meet these specifications has escalated. But when you talk about TVs that are at the top of the chain, it comes down to three brands - LG, Sony, and Samsung.

While Samsung has put its chips on QLED technology, which is edge-lit and supports high-intensity bright-levels, Sony and LG have gone with the more progressive OLED. The biggest advantage OLED TVs have is that each pixel is self-lit, so when it's supposed to be black, it can switch itself completely off to deliver incredible black levels and amazing contrasts that no other display technology can match up to today. And when it comes to the king of the OLEDs, LG seems to have made its mark pretty clear.

Besides being awarded for delivering perfect picture quality and slim designs, LG OLED TVs have been receiving extremely positive reviews from many tech experts. For example, US-based Consumer Reports gave the 65-inch LG Signature OLED TV W its best score ever with 89 points, and also awarded OLED TVs with rankings from #1 through #13 (13th place was tied between an OLED TV and a Sony LCD TV.

It's not surprising considering that the LG Signature OLED TV W is currently the finest offering in premium OLED TVs with its spectacular features. To begin with, the panel is incredibly thin at just 0.15 inches. That's thinner than most mobile phones in the market today.

The 4K panel supports a myriad of HDR formats, including HDR 10, HLG, and Dolby Vision, which prepares you for every HDR format used today; be it streaming services like Netflix or Amazon Prime, or even UHD Blu-Rays. Even the current generation of home gaming consoles make good use of HDR, for an even more spectacular visual experience.

But it's not just about the visual experience. While many flat-panel displays disappoint in audio quality, LG's bundled AV receiver is packed with speakers to deliver Dolby Atmos theatrical surround sound right in your living room. This includes top firing speakers for that true surround effect.LG OLED TVs also have a tremendous advantage with the OS they run on. While other manufacturers merely adapt an OS to suit the TV's ecosystem, LG's WebOS is built for its smart TV range. Because of this, consumers get well-optimised apps with timely updates, along with a unique app library that takes advantage of the TV's features. You get options like Magic Link that recommends you videos based on what you're currently viewing, Magic Zoom that allows you to magnify parts of the screen for a closer look, and many more LG exclusive features.

LG OLED TVs have received Consumer Reports' highest score a total of 5 times since last year. It's safe to say that LG OLED TVs are record-breakers.

In June of last year, the OLED55E6P received the highest score with 84 points. In October of the same year, the 65-inch E6 received a higher score with 85 points and again the 65-inch G6P recorded 86 on November. This year, this rank score achievement with LG Signature OLED TV W is the second time to break the highest record since the 65 and 55-inch C7 broke the record again with 88 points in April.

Looking at the results above, it should be pointed out that LG does have an advantage when it comes to OLED TVs, since it's the only manufacturer currently producing the world's OLED TV panels.

Though OLEDs have taken over the premium TV segment, the biggest barrier for the technology to go mainstream is the price of panels. But that's changing as well. Just a couple of years ago, OLED TVs were twice the price of their LCD counterparts, but now as the technology has gotten better, the difference has gone down to 1.3. Though that premium is completely justified with the upgrade in picture quality, it's only a matter of time when OLEDs get even more price competitive.

It's just like Byung-do Kim, a professor of Business at Seoul National University, said, "The cost of OLED TVs has dramatically decreased and the speed of popularization for this technology is exceeding expectations."

LG has been leading the way in OLED innovation, while gaining popularity with the masses, which is a rare combination to find in any field of consumer electronics. It's Signature OLED TV W is groundbreaking in the way it offers incredible picture quality, rich HDR colors and luminosity while being thinner than even a picture frame. All this without compromising on sound, smart features and looks. It's an all-in-one home theatre system that's aesthetically designed, which makes it a must-buy for modern homes. As the Consumer Reports' list points out - the competition doesn't even come close.
