Refreshed Amazon Kindle Fire HD tablet unveiled at lower price
Amazon's Kindle Fire HD tablet has been upgraded and unveiled at a starting price of $139 (Rs. 8,700 approximately). The new Kindle Fire HD is now available for pre-order from Amazon and will be shipping from October 2. The New Kindle Fire HD comes in two storage variants, 8GB model priced at $139, and 16GB model priced at $169.

The New Amazon Kindle Fire HD comes with a 7-inch display with 1280x800 pixels resolution which is about 66 percent more pixels that its predecessor and 216ppi (pixels per inch) pixel density. The tablet runs Fire OS 3.0 'Mojito' which is based on Android but comes with upgraded features, platform updates, and Amazon-exclusive services, mentions the company.

Other specifications of the tablet include a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, up to 10 hours of mixed use, Dolby Audio and Dual Stereo Speakers. The new Kindle Fire HD comes with dimensions 191x128x10.6mm and weighs about 345 grams.

The tablet also comes with exclusive benefits of the Amazon ecosystem like X-Ray for Music, expanded X-Ray for Movies and TV, Prime Instant Video downloads, Second Screen and Kindle FreeTime which extends parental controls to manage the way kids use Kindle Fire.

Commenting on the launch, Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO, Amazon.com said, "Two years ago, we revolutionized the tablet industry with the breakthrough $199 price point for tablets-now we're doing it again with the $139 price point. $139 now gets you a 1280x800 216 ppi HD display, a dual-core 1.5 GHz processor, Fire OS 3.0, dual speakers with Dolby audio, vast selection and Amazon-exclusive features like Prime Instant Video downloads, Second Screen, Kindle FreeTime, X-Ray and more."

Amazon also pulled the curtains off its next-generation Kindle Fire tablets, the Kindle Fire HDX tablet line-up comprising two tablets: a 7-inch and an 8.9-inch variant, much like the Kindle Fire HD unveiled last year.
