Facebook starts rolling out comment editing

Facebook starts rolling out comment editing

Facebook is always undergoing minor feature transformations. Last December, they introduced Facebook Timeline which was both accepted and rejected alike. Now, the social networking site has come up with another feature which allows users to edit posted comments, a feature which was earlier introduced by Google+.

While typos may not seem like a big deal, they can make you look really silly, especially when something like "Just wish thongs could fall into place" makes you come across as pervert, instead of emotionally disturbed. (Hint: replace thongs with things, in case you don't get what we mean!)

Currently, users can only remove and then re-post a comment, which is both exhausting and time-consuming. But with the new comment-editing feature, users can go back and edit or delete their comments even on existing status messages. They can also view the edit history by clicking on the option "edited" that appears right below the comment, so that everyone involved in it can view full context of the conversation.

One wonders, though, why Facebook is starting with comments editing and not offering the ability to edit posts yet, since one is just as likely to make a typo in a post.

Another feature that the social networking giant has come up with is that users can see their friends' Timeline profile picture and cover photo when you hover over their name. Now, when a user hovers over a friend's name, it would not only display the profile image but also a small version of the user's cover image listing their occupation, a thumbnail gallery of mutual friends along with buttons for messaging.

It's still unclear whether the feature is still under testing or has been made official. Both features haven't been rolled out to all users yet, so it may be a while before they pop up in your news-feed.
