  • The analogy of 800s from Lumia series. 820 is a charmer. REVIEW
Syed Jalal (May 13, 2014) on Gadgets 360
My first smartphone was an Android phone. From then on my love for Android started. As we all know, it has been growing at a speedy pace since it's inception. Today it sits at the top. Google and Apple pretty much rule the roost. Microsoft didnt want to be left behind and released Windows Phone. After failing to gain traction initially, Windows Phone finally gained some momentum when Nokia jumped the gun. After failing to tackle the rise of iPhones and Android, Nokia was on the brink of extinction and adopted Windows Phone to compete with the others. Out of their wide Rangeof Lumia Range, LUMIA 820 is more than a mid range device, Lumia 820 has a beuatiful design which makes it easy to hold. Although it's a bit slippy in hand, thanks to the polycarbonate plastic back. Design and Hardware: Very rectagular in shape with little curved edges. It's a good industrial design and is eye-catchy. We have a 3.5 mm audio jack on the top, power button, volume rocker, and camera shutter at the right side with nothing on left. It has an 8 MP rear camera which takes decent photos. It also has a micro SD card slot and micro USB port at the bottom which sums it up. The device has a 1.5GHz dual core processor with 1GB RAM and 1600 mAH battery Display: The display on the 820 is an AMOLED display with a resolutin of 480*800 nearing just around 220 ppi which could've been better. We get absolute blacks when seeing backs and not greyish blacks. AMOLED displays have always been praised for lower power consumption but that's not the case with this phone. Battery: It's a very important factor. Although a lot of innovation has been going on in smartphone sector, nothing concrete has been achieved for the battery. One hardly gets a full day on one charge. Although takes less time to charge but also takes less time to discharge. Software: It's all about Windows Phone and Nokia services tied in. The good thing about Windows Phone is that it doesn't require raw hardware to run smoothly. This makes sure that we get unparalleled performanceevery single time. Yes EVERY SINGLE TIME. We have seen that it also runs on 256 MB of RAM without much issues. Also, it should be noted that unlike Android, every single WIndows Phone out there can be upgraded to the latest SOftware without issues and with full feature list. That in itself is a miraculous achievement. Windows Phone 8.1 has arrived with great list of features and this will only strenghten it's position as the third top Mobile Platform. Nokia has provided great services with it's Lumia Range that bides well with the phone. Conclusion: Nokia Lumia 820 is a device with character. I say this because it represents Nokia in a different way than we have seen it over the years. It's a great device to have but not for the price it is being sold. I would've recommended it otherwise. I think a 3.5/5 justifies it but not for the price. You won't be disappointed though if you get it.

I thought long and hard before buying a smart phone. In the end the choice narrowed down to a Windows Phone or an Android Phone.I had a bad experience with my Samsung Galaxy phone in terms of reliability. I wanted something more reliable even if it meant lesser features. Finally I went with this phone as it was relatively cheaper than phones with similar hardware configurations and Nokia phones are generally considered to be more reliable. I was pleasantly surprised with the phone and its performance has exceeded my expectations. The phone display is an eye-candy with neatly laid out tiles which can be customized. I have not experienced any software issues despite having Windows on it. The camera is also very good. I also liked the Nokia Maps application which is fantastic. I set up my corporate email on the phone within 2 minutes. The only drawback is the poor app ecosystem with Windows Phone. Overall I am really satisfied with this phone
