While India awaits availability of the original Redmi Note in the country, purported back panel images of the Redmi Note 2, the rumoured successor to the budget smartphone, is already doing the rounds of the Internet.

The back panel images purported to be of the Redmi Note 2 handset were posted by a Weibo user (via Vrzone) suggest the approximate length and width dimensions at 159x82mm, which is similar to iPhone 6 Plus. The user also detailed some specifications of the phablet, saying it includes a 5.5-inch display; a 64-bit Snapdragon 615 SoC; 2GB of RAM and a 13-megapixel rear camera. The specifications notably contradict previous leaks.

Last month, the specifications of the Redmi Note's successor along with its prices were tipped, suggesting the device is coming soon as a rival to Meizu MX4. The purported specifications included a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) display; an octa-core MT6595 chip from MediaTek with 3GB of RAM; a 20.7-megapixel rear-facing camera; an 8-megapixel front facing camera; 16GB/ 32GB/ 64GB/ 128GB internal storage, a 3500mAh battery, and connectivity options of 4G LTE and NFC. The alleged pricing in the post suggested that the 16GB variant will be priced at CNY 999 (approximately Rs. 10,000), 32GB at CNY 1,299 (approximately Rs. 13,000), and 64GB at CNY 1,499 (approximately Rs. 15,000).

The report had further noted that the MediaTek chipset works on the Big.LITTLE architecture with 4 Cortex-A17 cores (up to 2.2GHz clock speed) and 4 Cortex-A7 cores (up to 1.7GHz clock speed).

Another report in September had claimed that the chipset in the alleged successor of the Redmi Note scored an impressive 47,233 on the AnTuTu Benchmark tests.
