Sony rumoured to be working on C680X device with full-HD display, Android 4.2

After the mystery surrounding the Sony C660X Yuga (Xperia Z) and C650X Odin (Xperia ZL) devices was revealed at CES last month, now the company is rumoured to be working on another new device codenamed C680X.

The Xperia blog reports that the new device could make a debut in the second half of this year. The device appeared on the HTML5 Test website, that benchmarks a browser's compatibility with the HTML5 standards. It revealed that the C6802 runs on Android 4.2 and features a 1080x1920 resolution. The screen-size isn't clear.

With this latest leak, certain questions seem to arise. The difference between the C660X Xperia Z and the C650X Xperia ZL mostly lies in the exterior. Both have different dimensions and the Xperia Z is dust and water resistant. So does the C680X Xperia device offer anything new besides Android 4.2? And will there be a C670X? For now, we're guessing Sony might be focusing on the processing speed, RAM and/ or battery.

Considering that the device's existence is being known at a time when the Mobile World Congress is a week away, it is highly unlikely that it will make an appearance at the said event.

That said, it is possible for the Sony C530X 'Huashan', now being called the Sony Xperia SP and the C210X or Xperia L to debut at the MWC. We've known about the C530X 'Huashan' for quite a while now. Past rumours indicate that it will come with a 1.7GHz dual-core Qualcomm SnapDragon processor and a 720p display. It is expected to run on Android 4.1.

The Sony Xperia SP is also touted to be a mid-range device that resembles the Sony Xperia Z and Xperia ZL in terms of looks.

The Xperia L, on the other hand, is expected to be an entry-level Android smartphone and will have a 1GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor and an 854x480 resolution display. The device is likely to run on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) out of the box.

The Xperia Z has begun selling in Japan for 80,430 Yen sans contract, being offered by NTT DoCoMo. Sony Mobile India has listed the Xperia Z and Xperia ZL smartphones on their website as well and as per our sources the smartphone should be available by March 2013. However, there's no word regarding the India pricing at this stage.
