Lenovo-brand Moto launched the Moto Z last year that brought a modular approach with the Moto Mods. The company is now busy working on its successor and a recent reveal by tipster Evan Blass suggests that the next iteration will be called the Moto Z2.

In a recent tweet, Blass seemingly confirmed with a logo that this year's Moto Z flagship will be called Moto Z2, unless of course they go with 'Moto Z Squared' given the size of the number '2' in the logo. Details regarding the upcoming flagship are limited, but we can expect the smartphone to support Moto Mods as the company is not planning to give that up any time soon. Moto recently confirmed that it would launch 12 more Moto Mods this year.

The alleged Moto Z2 was thought to be spotted last month during Sprint's Gigabit Class LTE service display, as well as at the Gamepad Mod unveil. One of the most notable changes seen from the images that have circulated online is the new oval shaped fingerprint sensor (the Moto Z had a square-shaped sensor). The form factor is also likely to remain the same to support existing and future Moto Mods. This means that you can expect the next flagship to sport a 5.5-inch display similar to last year's model. Notably, the device that was used to showcase Sprint's Gigabit LTE service was pictured running Snapdragon 835.

To recall, the Moto Z was launched in India in October, priced at Rs. 39,999. The smartphone sports a 5.5-inch QHD AMOLED display, and was powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC coupled with 4GB of RAM. The device was touted as the thinnest premium smartphone in the world at 5.2mm. The flagship came with 13-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilisation (OIS) and laser autofocus, and 5-megapixel front-facing camera with a wide-angle lens and a front flash.

The Moto Z is available with 64GB of inbuilt storage, which is expandable via microSD (up to 2TB). Connectivity options for the Moto Z include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v4.1, GPS/ A-GPS, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. The smartphone is fitted with a 2600mAh battery, measures 153.3x75.3x5.19mm and weighs 136 grams.

Some of the Moto Mods that were launched in India include JBL Soundboost, Moto Insta-Share Projector, Hasselblad True Zoom, he Incipio offGRID Power Pack, among others.
