Ahead of Motorola's much-anticipated September 4 launch event to be held in Chicago, we have been treated again to a leaked image claimed to be of the successor to the Moto X.

This time it comes from usually spot-on tipster Evan Blass, popularly known as @evleaks, who notes in a tweet, "My retirement gift to you." For those unaware, Blass announced his retirement from tech leaks earlier this month, citing his multiple sclerosis and financial conditions as the reason.

The alleged Moto X+1 render from the tipster goes well in-line with previous leaks and shows the alleged handset with Verizon branding, tipping that the Moto X (Review | Pictures) successor will be available on the mobile carrier. The render further shows the handset in two versions - one Black, and the other with a wooden back.

It's worth noting that the current leaked renders of the alleged Moto X+1 are the best images thus far in terms of quality, and clearly shows the icons on the display of the handset. The leaked render shows the front panel of the handset sporting dual speaker grills both on the top and bottom of the display, like the Moto E (Review | Pictures). The back of the device is seen with the rear camera in the centre just above the Motorola logo, and is accompanied by dual-LED flash lights placed on the both sides of the camera. The new camera setup does tip that the company might introduce a new photography technology, along the lines of HTC's dual camera set-up seen first on the HTC One (M8).

The leaked render also show the display of the alleged Moto X+1 with a September 17 date, seen in the middle of the screen, suggesting that the handset might hit the shelves for Verizon on the same date - leaving open the possibility of an earlier launch. Further, Phone Arena points out that the red messaging app seen in the render is the one usually seen on Verizon bound devices and indicates that the Moto X successor might come with some bloatware preloaded.

Motorola over the weekend started sending invitations for a pre-IFA event on September 4, where the company is expected to launch the successors of the Moto X and Moto G - rumoured to be called the Moto X+1 and Moto G2 respectively - alongside its much-awaited Moto 360 smartwatch. Motorola India also confirmed an event on September 5 in the country.

So far, the rumoured specifications of the Moto X+1 include Android 4.4.4 KitKat; a 5.2-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) display, a 2.4GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor; an Adreno 330 GPU; 2GB of RAM; 16GB of built-in storage; a 12-megapixel rear camera, and a 2-megapixel front facing camera.
