Encouraged by successful use of BlackBerry and Bluetooth printers for traffic enforcement in Bangalore city over the past four years, the system has been extended to all the traffic police stations across Karnataka.

From yesterday, paper challans and police notice books are being phased out and replaced by Bluetooth enabled printers, BlackBerry and centralised database located at state data centre for the entire state, Police department said in a statement.

"This will enable real time monitoring of the traffic enforcement, bring transparency, eliminate discretion and reduce possibility of malpractices which existed in the present system", it said.

With this all the 250 traffic officers of the rank of ASI, PSI and PIs across the state will start using BlackBerry for traffic enforcement. This is in addition to 750 officers already using this facility in Bangalore city in the past four years.

"With this, Karnataka has become the first State in the country which has complete paperless enforcement with real time monitoring of the traffic enforcement. This project was implemented by police computer wing of Karnataka police", the statement added.
