Multiple reports emerging from China are claiming that the country's retailers and telecom operators have received a massive 2 million reservations for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in the first 6 hours of booking.

Apple Insider, citing a couple of Chinese publications (ITHome and Sina) reports that "incomplete statistics" are claiming that retailers and 3 of China's mobile carriers (China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom) have booked over 2 million reservations.

Reports also suggest that the majority of bookings have been made for the 64GB storage variants of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

Notably, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are slated for an October 17 release on all three Chinese carriers, the company had revealed recently. Apple received clearance from the Chinese government at the end of September.

Apple unveiled these phones on September 9. On opening weekend, Apple revealed that it sold more than 10 million of its new iPhone models globally, setting a new record for opening weekend sales of its smartphone. Apple, after making iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus available in launch countries of United States, UK, France, Germany, Canada, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, and Singapore, made the handsets available to buy in over 20 markets worldwide in the last week on September. Apple plans to roll out the new iPhone devices to as many as 115 countries this year.

Apple is widely expected to launch the new bigger iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in India this month, on October 17. Ahead of any official announcement regarding the India launch of the new iPhone models however, the smartphones have made their way in through the grey market.

Earlier on Friday, Bharti Airtel listed the iPhone 6 Plus without pricing on its official site. The company has listed the smartphone with a 'coming soon' tag and has all three storage variants of the handset available in Gold, Silver, and Space Grey colours. Notably, Airtel does not list the iPhone 6.
