Huawei's Android 7.0 Nougat Update Roadmap for Mid-Range Smartphones Leaked
Highlights
  • Huawei Nova will be the first to receive it in March
  • Android 7.0 Nougat update is based on the company's own EMUI 5.0 skin
  • Honor 6X will receive it in May

Huawei launched the P8 Lite](2017) this month running on Android 7.0 Nougat-based EMUI 5.0 out of the box, and now the company's roadmap for releasing EMUI 5.0 to its other mid-range smartphones has been leaked. Huawei's Honor 6X, Honor Note 8, Huawei Nova, and Huawei G9 Plus - all are going to receive the update through the course of this year.

The first mid-ranger to get the update is the Huawei Nova smartphone in March, followed by the Honor Note 8 and Huawei G9 Plus in April, according to the leaked table on Weibo (via Playfuldroid). The Honor 6X and the MediaPad M3 tablet will receive the Android Nougat-based EUI 5.0 update sometime in May.

In November, Huawei first unveiled EMUI 5.0 alongside the launch of its flagship Mate 9. Later, the company officially announced its roadmap for Android 7.0 Nougat roll out. At that time, Huawei announced that the Huawei Mate 8, Huawei P9, Huawei P9 Plus, Huawei P9 Lite, Huawei Nova, and Huawei Nova Plus will receive the Nougat update sometime in the first quarter 2017. The leak testifies the Huawei Nova timeline, and even reveals that the company is planning to roll down its latest software offering to select other mid-range devices as well.

The company claims that the new EMUI 5.0 ROM brings a lot of improvements in interface design and security. Huawei claims that with EMUI 5.0 'the user can activate 90 percent of the main functions in only two or three clicks'. Moreover, machine learning understands which apps are used more often and are resource optimised automatically. It also brings power management to improve battery efficiency. EMUI 5.0 also has 'App Lock' that allows users to lock specific apps like WhatsApp, Facebook, or any other apps with a unique password for added security.
