Ever since the launch of HTC One (codenamed HTC M7), there have been news reports suggesting that HTC is planning a mid-range smartphone dubbed HTC M4.

Now, as per a report by DigiTimes, HTC has signed a deal appointing Catcher Technology as the exclusive supplier of metal-alloy body of HTC M4. The news report also claims that HTC is planning to launch its M4 smartphone in June and has an estimate of shipping 7,00,000 units within the second quarter. By third quarter, the Taiwanese smartphone maker plans to make its HTC M4 more widely available.

As per DigitTimes, the contract has been awarded exclusively to Catcher Technology to avoid any sort of component shortage issues that HTC One faced.

The leaked images of HTC M4 had surfaced way back in February. The past rumours indicate that HTC M4 will have 4.3-inch screen which sports resolution of 720p, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage and 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon SoC. It is expected to run on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean), along with Sense 5.0. HTC M4 is also expected to come with an UltraPixel camera, just like the HTC One. Furthermore, HTC M4 will support LTE in the countries where the technology is available.

HTC had recently launched its flagship smartphone HTC One (Review | Pictures). This smartphone features a 4.7-inch screen with 1080p display. It is powered by a 1.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor along with 2GB of RAM. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/ac/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, NFC, Infrared and Micro-USB. The smartphone runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) along with a brand new Sense UI.

HTC One comes with 32GB of non-expandable storage in India, though a 64GB variant is available in other markets. No word from HTC when, and indeed if, the 64GB variant will hit Indian shores.

There has been a lot of buzz around the HTC One camera, as the company has ditched the conventional megapixel in favour of something that the company dubs as the UltraPixel camera. There is a 2.1-megapixel front camera and a 2,300mAh battery. The smartphone is available in India for a best buy price of Rs. 42,900.

There have been recent rumours suggesting that Samsung, seeing how well the HTC One has been received, is also considered an alloy chassis for its forthcoming Galaxy Note III phablet.
