Some Pixel 2 XL users have reported that they are facing slower fingerprint unlocking on their Pixel 2 XL devices after installing the Android 8.1 Oreo update. The issue has been reported majorly on Google Product Forums, and Google is reportedly working on its fix. The Pixel 2 range received the latest Android Oreo version earlier this month.

As folks at Android Police spotted, affected users have reported that their Android 8.1-running Pixel 2 XL units took about a second to unlock the device through the available fingerprint scanner. "My Pixel 2 XL's screen takes a good second before the screen turns on. This just started after performing the update," one of the users posted on Google forums.

Apart from the official forums, the issue has been well reported on Reddit, and a video on YouTube surfaced replicating the issue live. The video shows nearly three seconds of delay in unlocking a Pixel 2 XL unit that allegedly includes the flaw. However, we weren't able to replicate the issue on a Pixel 2 XL unit of a team member.

Google Community Manager Orrin Hancock stated in response to the issue that he would reach out to specific individuals privately for bug reports and additional information. Whereas, a top contributor who owns username ScottG_TC on Google Product Forums said that the Pixel team is aware of the issue and is looking for its fix.

We've reached out to Google separately for a comment regarding the issue and will update this space accordingly.

This is not the first time when Google Pixel 2 XL has been reported with an issue at a mass level. The latest top-end Pixel handset was spotted with a bootloader bug in the past that was fixed recently. Last month, the Pixel 2 XL was also reported to cause a sudden reboot when connected to an LTE network.
