Gionee's Elife S5.5 is reportedly receiving the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update, skipping the earlier Android 4.3 version.

GSM Arena reports that the Elife S5.5 Android 4.4.2 update is 865MB in size and brings a number of additions to the handset. The site has also listed changelog of the Android KitKat update for the Elife S5.5, which might not be an official changelog of the update.

According to the site, the biggest addition to the Gionee Elife S5.5 will be the new KitKat OS, which is supplemented by new desktop layout; added Du speed booster (for faster operations); new UI design of the Amigo Paper; upgraded Game Zone with new UI design; upgraded GioneeXender for optimised performance, and removal of the world cricket championship.

The site reportedly updated a Gionee Elife S5.5 (Review | Pictures) units, and notes some of the changes like minor UI tweaks; subtle animations; redesigned notification drawer; and new pre-installed apps (like BBM).

The Elife S5.5 was initially launched in February, and the company's claims of it being the world's thinnest smartphone are not too off the mark, with the device 5.5mm at its slimmest.

Gionee unveiled the Elife S5.5 in March for the Indian market, while the handset went on sale only in early-May.

The Elife S5.5 is a single-SIM smartphone that features a 5-inch Super AMOLED (1080x1920 pixels) Plus display with a pixel density of 441ppi. It is powered by a 1.7GHz octa-core CPU coupled with 2GB of RAM, and launched with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean onboard.

Other specifications include a 13-megapixel rear shooter with LED flash; 5-megapixel front camera; 16GB inbuilt storage, and 2300mAh battery.
