Asus ZenFone 2 to Launch in 5.5-Inch Display Variants in India

Asus India on Friday at a ZenFone 2 media preview confirmed that it will only launch the 5.5-inch screen variants of the smartphone lineup. The launch is scheduled for April 23.

This would mean three variants of the ZenFone 2 smartphone will be launched, the ZE551ML (4GB of RAM), ZenFone 2 ZE551ML (2GB of RAM), and the ZenFone 2 ZE550ML (5.5-inch HD display). The Asus ZenFone 2 ZE500CL, which features a 5-inch HD display, will not be launched in India.

The Taiwanese company had previously confirmed that it would be bringing three variants of the ZenFone 2 to India.

Further, Asus revealed that all the three variants will support Indian LTE bands, and added that more details will be announced at the launch event.

The Asus ZenFone 2 (ZE551ML) with 4GB of RAM has two storage options, 32GB and 64GB. Peter Chang, Regional Head of South Asia and Managing Director for Asus India, however declined to answer whether both storage options of the ZE551ML would be made available in India

The Taiwanese handset maker launched the ZenFone 2 series in Taiwan last month, while it recently introduced the handsets to the European market.

In Taiwan, the top-end Asus ZenFone 2 model (ZE551ML) with 64GB of built-in storage and 4GB of RAM is priced at TWD 9,990 (roughly Rs. 19,900), the ZenFone 2 ZE551ML (4GB RAM, and 32GB storage) at TWD 8,990 (approximately Rs. 18,000); the ZenFone 2 ZE551ML (2GB RAM) at TWD 6,990 (approximately Rs. 13,900); the Asus ZenFone 2 ZE550ML at TWD 5,990 (approximately Rs. 11,900),

All variants of the Asus ZenFone 2 run the company's new ZenUI based on Google's Android 5.0 Lollipop, and feature Intel Atom SoCs. The Asus ZenFone 2 ZE551ML (4GB) features a 64-bit 2.3GHz quad-core Intel Atom Z3580 processor, while the 2GB of RAM model features a 1.8GHz quad-core Intel Atom Z3560. The ZenFone 2 ZE550ML is also powered by the same Intel Atom Z3560 chipset. All the versions support expandable storage via microSD card (up to 64GB).

The Asus ZenFone 2 ZE551ML features a 5.5-inch full-HD display in both the 2GB and 4GB RAM variants, while the Asus ZenFone 2 ZE550ML features a 5.5-inch HD display. All three variants support dual-SIM (Micro-SIMs).

The Asus ZenFone 2 ZE551ML (4GB and 2GB of RAM) and ZenFone 2 ZE550ML both sport 13-megapixel rear PixelMaster camera while there is a 5-megapixel front camera on board as well. Both the ZenFone 2 ZE551ML models feature dual-tone flash. Both the ZenFone 2 ZE551ML models and the ZenFone 2 ZE550ML are backed by a 3000mAh battery.
