Flagship smartphones from LG don't often stay in the limelight long after their launches, as many of their competitors do. OnePlus and Samsung, on the other hand, have much more significant portions of the audience's mindshare. The South Korean company is now trying to make a mark with its own take on a foldable smartphone, with the LG G8X ThinQ. This new device can work like an ordinary smartphone, but also lets you double your screen space with an add-on display case that is bundled in the box. The G8X ThinQ is priced at Rs. 49,999 in India, including the display case, and this is the first time such a product had made it to our market. Is it useful or just a gimmick? We've tested it to find out.

LG G8X ThinQ Summary

The LG G8X ThinQ sports a 6.4-inch AMOLED display with a tiny water drop notch at the top. The bezels are thin on the sides of the display while the bottom chin is slightly thicker. It has a dedicated Google Assistant button and is among the few phones to still retain the 3.5mm headphone jack. LG also bundles a dual screen accessory with the device which helps connect a similar display to the phone.

The LG G8x ThinQ smartphone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC and it comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage. It packs in a 4,000mAh battery and has support for fast charging. The LG G8X ThinQ runs LG UX 9.0 on top of Android 9 Pie. The device also has a Hi-Fi DAC feature and supports DTS:X 3D Surround sound. It offers good performance and the device is capable of handling anything you throw at it.

LG has stuck with a dual-camera setup on the LG G8X ThinQ with a 12-megapixel primary camera and a 13-megapixel wide-angle-camera. The phone clicks decent photos in daylight and low-light photos were also good. Video recording is another strong point for the LG G8X ThinQ.

LG G8X ThinQ Price in India

LG G8X ThinQ price in India starts from ₹ 29,990. The lowest price of LG G8X ThinQ is ₹ 29,990 at Flipkart on 5th December 2020.

  • Fabulous!
Bhupendra Juvatkar (Oct 18, 2020) on Flipkart
Excellent Flagship Device in affordable price! The second screen is very helpful for multitasking. You could run two different apps actively on the LG G8X ThinQ. You can use one of the two screens as a gamepad while a game is displayed on the other. No lag or stutter during playing games. It has a pretty decent camera. Low-light camera performance is quite good. Also has an external 2.1" monochrome Cover Display. Go buy it!

Dual screen has its own benefits. 7. Crisp user interface n display. 8. Multiple camera modes taking advantage of the dual screen for various functionalities. 9. Fingerprint resistant body. 10. Water n dust resistant. 11. 360 hinge, helps matters. 12. Bang for buck phone! Cons: 1. Please mention if you find any. Regards, Anuraag Roy

  • Audio Quality Excellent, Everything else good.
Samarth Singh (Nov 20, 2020) on Amazon
I got this phone from someone selling brand new on Olx. I've tested and been through enough phones... None can match this phone in audio quality in ear/headphones. Simple aural pleasure, that's what it is.AUDIO: Loudspeakers are stereo, where the call earpiece acts as second speaker, less in loudness but sounds balanced due to front facing design... Loudspeaker is loud with reasonably good quality music. It has a 3.5mm jack which outputs very good quality music with Hifi Quad DAC off...Switching Hifi Quad DAC on means more battery consumed, but the sound becomes "spacious" and "clear", beyond what the typical Samsung/ Apple phones manage.... Its totally a different level. I think I need new high quality headphones to take full benefit of it, but you can feel difference on Mi in earphone as well. You can feel the power of Quad DAC even on 32 kbps file, but for actual pleasure, try getting lossless files or 24 bit hifi files from internet and then listen using best headphones you have.Volume is distributed to 75 levels in Quad DAC for all softwares you use, normally they're 15 levels.3D Stereo expansion results in drastic change to sound, it becomes wider. I keep Quad DAC on, and 3D stereo off for my taste of music.CAMERAS: Selfie camera is good, it makes 8MP pics by interpolating 32MP. You have a choice of a no-filter realistic image (which I prefer because years later I want a real image of how I looked, not some sugar coated whitewash that today's selfies are).8-10 Filters exist which satisfy all needs, including a customisable mode.2 Cameras exist on the rear, with LED flash. Autofocus is ok-ok fast. Main camera is very good overall in all photos and videos. Low light is good with main camera due to stabilization, but subjects may still move. Wide angle camera is good in terms of image and skewedness, but its corner sharpness is a letdown.Video recording is good in 4K and 1080p, but so-so/darkish in 60fps modes. 4K60 is available.Slow motion is 1080p @ 240 fps without audio, no other lower option exists, but you can lower clip speed. You can add LG's given music or other music to this clip very easily. Slow motion is excellent quality in good light. But it is 120 fps for Wide angle cam, and no so good.Video recording has option of ASMR mode which makes each audio signal more clear.... eating sound, birds sound, etc. Its actually good.PHONE: I'm facing a signal problem (single sim, airtel 4G LTE). Sometimes randomly signal goes down, but I never dropped a call so far, so it could be purely software error. Software update is latest.DUAL SCREEN: You can attach dual screen setup which comes with the phone. It makes phone very very heavy, but both displays are OLED touch 60Hz, which is good, and both have their own UI for using different apps easily for copy paste, comparison, etc. You can also play games on one and use other for keypad like in pubg.In all, its useful for some people, but the weight means you might remove the second screen and keep it with its box. With second screen, the usb is extended and it becomes a magnetic connecter with adaptor.Dual display screen also has a 3rd, very basic, notification/clock display in black and white on the glossy outside.PERFORMANCE: Simply outstanding, as what is expected from Snapdragon 855 phone. I never faced issue of less RAM, but out of 6GB, 4GB remains busy according to software, but it adjusts as opened apps increase... So no issue.SOFTWARE: Google apps are present, but they can be disabled which I did. Phone doesn't have essentials like call recording, FM, etc. but it did ok otherwise. Settings are somewhat basic which makes the phone hard to customise well, like you can do on Mi, etc. But I got used to it well after owning a Mi phone last. Very less bloatware, using LG Account is not compulsory to run phone correctly. You can disable useless apps.103GB was left for user in the memory in brand new phone.BATTERY: After removing all bloatware and disabling Google apps, I got a life of 3 days 6 hours (from 100% to 10%) out of which display on time (accd to its software) was 7 hours. Single screen was kept. 4G LTE On. Whatsapp and Hike were running together. No Facebook. Music was listened to with Hifi Quad DAC for 1-2 hours.+ Points:> Audio quality beyond excellent, even for old music files and basic Rs. 1000 headphones,> Cameras are great for this price,> Display is OLED, good enough for all purposes,> Software is not too bloated,> IP rated for water protection, and it works!> Dual Display is actually very useful, and came with the phone.- Points:> UI is a bit clunky right now, even Mobile data button has Yes/ No confirmation everytime! It can change with software update in future. No internet controller for apps (for background data it exists). No built in antivirus.> A bit on heavy side with 192 grams, more than 300 with dual display. LG V40 has 5 cameras but it weighs 160 grams.> Google Assistant key can be turned off, but can't be reconfigured for other uses.> Charger not bundled. Charging is very slow, takes at least 2+ hours no matter which charger you use.I'm satisfied with the phone. At Rs. 24000, it was a steal phone from a big brand. Get it upto 35k if you insist on a big brand phone.
