Flagship smartphones from LG don't often stay in the limelight long after their launches, as many of their competitors do. OnePlus and Samsung, on the other hand, have much more significant portions of the audience's mindshare. The South Korean company is now trying to make a mark with its own take on a foldable smartphone, with the LG G8X ThinQ. This new device can work like an ordinary smartphone, but also lets you double your screen space with an add-on display case that is bundled in the box. The G8X ThinQ is priced at Rs. 49,999 in India, including the display case, and this is the first time such a product had made it to our market. Is it useful or just a gimmick? We've tested it to find out.

LG G8X ThinQ Summary

The LG G8X ThinQ sports a 6.4-inch AMOLED display with a tiny water drop notch at the top. The bezels are thin on the sides of the display while the bottom chin is slightly thicker. It has a dedicated Google Assistant button and is among the few phones to still retain the 3.5mm headphone jack. LG also bundles a dual screen accessory with the device which helps connect a similar display to the phone.

The LG G8x ThinQ smartphone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC and it comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage. It packs in a 4,000mAh battery and has support for fast charging. The LG G8X ThinQ runs LG UX 9.0 on top of Android 9 Pie. The device also has a Hi-Fi DAC feature and supports DTS:X 3D Surround sound. It offers good performance and the device is capable of handling anything you throw at it.

LG has stuck with a dual-camera setup on the LG G8X ThinQ with a 12-megapixel primary camera and a 13-megapixel wide-angle-camera. The phone clicks decent photos in daylight and low-light photos were also good. Video recording is another strong point for the LG G8X ThinQ.

  • The underrated champ!
Ishaan (Jan 5, 2020) on Amazon
Pros:1. Excellent build quality with water resistant body and wireless charging support2. Audio quality through the headphone jack is the best in the business3. Display quality is pretty amazing and almost on par with Samsung4. Battery backup is phenomenal5. Overall great image quality day and night, selfie camera is pretty good too6. LG UI finally got much needed changes, and looks pretty neat now7. Tons of customisation available and great manual controls in the camera app8. Price is quite good as it comes with the dual screen accessory and a free tv for limited period of time9. The dual screen opens up to lots of multitasking capabilities10. Google camera works flawlesslyCons:1. Dual screen accessory makes the phone heavy and bulky, could've been sleeker2. With the dual screen accessory attached, the battery backup becomes average and will last for maximum a day for continuous usage3. A telephoto camera would've been good for this price4. Runs on Android pie, should've launched with Android 10. Although LG's features are far ahead of stock Android.5. The borders around the screen is little thick, could've been slimmer to give a more polished look to the phoneOverall, a very unique product for the price and can definitely compete with any phone on the same budget. Highly recommended!

Lg makes one of the best smartphone es but stays in the shadows of samsung and others, one of the best use of dual displays , reasonably priced also, only thing they need to work is towards delivering on time android updates

  • Bang on Buck!!!
Mac (Jan 1, 2020) on Amazon
LG G8x is true value for money. considering the offer that LG is bundling with LG G8x you cannot go wrong. currently LG is providing a 24inch LED tv as an offer which you can redeem after the purchase of the handset. LED tv will be delivered to your registered address after registering your handset. Now coming to handset, Lg had always been innovative with technology and this time also by introducing the dual screen technology as cheaper and reliable substitute to galaxy fold and mate x that uses the flexible display which are in its initial development, introduces the customers to the next level of multitasking at much affordable and cheaper price. As for the handset itself there aren't much cons, all I can think of is while using the phone with dual display the battery seems to drain faster still it will last you for a day in moderate use. stand by time is great even if you use it with dual display. with dual display the whole package becomes bit huge and heavy though it is not a deal breaker. Accessories like screen protectors are bit hard to find though you could use Samsung M30 screen protector for the main screen and Oppo F11 pro for the secondary screen can be used but tempered screen protector wont work as the two screen will not close hence it is advised to use hammer screen guard or film will also do. I am using hammer screen (both front & Back) is good, performs better than oneplus 7 pro, though no portrait mode. The display is good but nowhere near to oneplus which uses 90hz display also the in screen finger print sensor is slow compared to oneplus though it can be made better with future updates. Rest apart there isn't much to complain and all in all you can say that Lg g8x serves its purpose and is bang on buck.
