Microsoft shows off developer version of Windows 8

Microsoft has kicked off  the Build Conference with a developer version of Windows 8. Apart from this Microsoft has also announced an online apps store called the Windows Store.

According to Microsoft's Windows division head, Steven Sinofsky, Windows 8 offers the most comprehensive OS upgrade since Windows 95.

Windows 8 will offer a new tablet-centric user interface called the "Metro UI" which has been borrowed from the company's mobile operating system.

Windows 8 will also for the first time support ARM-based chips apart from Intel's x86 platform.

The developer version of Microsoft's next generation operating system will be available to developers through the Windows Dev Center later this week.
