Apple made some major announcements at its WWDC keynote yesterday. It introduced iOS 6, its own Maps service, deeper integration of Facebook into its mobile devices and also the thinner and more powerful MacBook Pro and Air.

But apart from these, Apple also announced an update for Mac Pro desktops, a first for the machine in two years. The new Mac Pro will now include three configuration options. The base model priced at $2500 will come with a 3.2GHz quad core processor, 6GB RAM, 1TB hard drive and the ATI Radeon 5770 graphics chip.

A higher version priced at $3800 will offer a 2.4GHz 12 core processor, 12GB RAM, 1TB hard drive and the same graphics chip. There's also a server configuration that will feature a 3.2GHz quad-core processor with 8GB RAM and two 1TB hard drives and will cost $3,000. These will incorporate Firewire and USB 2.0 ports but there were no signs of Thunderbolt or USB 3.0.

The Cupertino giant also silently updated its entry-level network router, the AirPort Express to offer a revamped design. It now looks more like Apple TV except for its colour, which is white. The device works on the same frequencies as before, 2.4 GHz and 5GHz, but it now supports simultaneous dual-band transmission i.e. it can transmit on both frequencies at the same time.

The new AirPort Express also comes with a 'guest networking' feature that allows users to set up a separate Wi-Fi network for guests, which will only provide access to the Internet. Other upgrades include two Ethernet ports - one each of LAN and WAN. Earlier, there was just one port, which could function both as LAN/WAN depending on the configuration.

Like its predecessor, the new Airport Express comes with integrated AirPlay and a USB port that can be used to attach a compatible printer. It can be setup via iOS, PC or Mac.

The new AirPort Express is available in Apple stores for an unchanged price of $99.
