eBay has released 'eBay India Census 2012' report, which is an annual affair that helps in identifying online buying and selling trends in India. This is the fifth edition of this report and it captures listing on the basis of eBay transactions that were done between July 2011 and December 2012. The report has revealed some interesting trends.

According to the report, Delhites did the most shopping on the website and the most popular item bought was chocolates. On the other hand, consumers in Bangalore shopped for yoga videos - perhaps to help them manage the stress, thanks to the daily traffic. Another fascinating revelation was Ahmedabad (which is ranked seventh in terms of cities) had most people login to eBay to buy lingerie. Jaipur consumers were interested in relatively childish pursuits like toy cars.

Just like the previous four times, Delhi continues to retain the top slot as the city that did maximum shopping on eBay. On the second spot is Mumbai. Surprisingly, the third place is taken up by Jaipur. What's more is that the Jaipur has displaced Bangalore to claim this spot, which had to be contended with the fourth spot. The fifth place is taken by Chennai.

In terms of state-wise ranking, Maharashtra takes the number one place, followed by Delhi, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. The report also mentions that eBay India is selling mobile accessories and health/ beauty products every one minute. Mobile cases are the top traded commodity amongst rural Indians shopping via eBay. The other popular items are currency notes, modems, Bluetooth headsets and tablets in this order.

As per eBay India Census 2012 report, majority of Mumbaikars bought laptop accessories. Interestingly the eBay users from this region also sold the maximum number of laptop skins on the portal. Users from Kolkata purchased the most Tibetan collectibles while users in Uttar Pradesh ordered for horse saddles. In terms of states, maximum consumers from West Bengal (which was at the 12 spot) went on to fish for fishing hooks.
