The ongoing US-Huawei dispute has cast some doubts on the future of the Chinese company's smartphone business, giving many potential buyers of Huawei and Honor-branded phones second thoughts. Still, braving these odds, Huawei subsidiary Honor recently launched its new Honor 20 series of phones, including the Honor 20 Pro, Honor 20, and Honor 20 Lite.

Honor 20 Summary

The Honor 20 sports an eye-catching design and has a very compact form factor, which makes it quite easy to hold the phone in palms, but the glossy rear panel is a fingerprint magnet. The side-mounted fingerprint sensor is extremely fast and does not pose any issue with its positioning either. The phone runs Magic UI 2.1 based on Android Pie and it is loaded with features, although it comes with a healthy amount of bloatware and has a learning curve to it.

The 6.26-inch full-HD+ (1080x2340 pixels) All-View display renders vibrant colours and offers good viewing angles, but its temperature is slightly warm by default. Honor 20 is powered by the Kirin 980 SoC, which proves to be a capable performer in all scenarios, be it heavy multi-tasking or gaming. But the phone quickly gets hot while gaming, and the Honor 20's sound output is also not up to the mark either.

Honor 20's quad rear cameras are led by a 48-megapixel sensor, which captures detailed photos with an ample amount of detail and sharpness, however, the colours are a bit oversaturated and there are some consistency issues as well. The selfie snapper gets its job done quite well, but not all people will like the smoothening done to the photos. The phone easily lasts a full day of usage, and its 3,750mAh battery can be fully charged, thanks to the bundled 22.5W fast charger.

it comes with pre-applied plastic screen protector that is good, a soft tpu case but i will suggest you to buy camera ring from AliExpress and keep it without case. Darn cute device

  • Premium, yet affordable!
Abhinav Arya (Nov 28, 2019) on Amazon
I bought this phone at a price of 23k. Here are my initial viewpoints for the phone.Pros:1. In a market full of huge phones, this one is welcome change. Phone is compact and easy to use2. Even though display is not amoled, it is still pretty good3. Phone feels very premium with top notch build quality4. Very capable selfie and rear cameras and probably amongst the best under 30k range. Only worthy selfie challenger in this range is Asus 6z which still costs around 7-8k more for similar spec variant5. Kirin 980 is awesome and draws flagship performance like snapdragon 8556. Good battery life. Kirin processors fare better than snapdragon due to efficient power usage. Do not get fooled by mah numbers7. Phone is zippy. Efficient ram management. No lags at all8. Charges pretty quickly as it comes bundled with a super charger9. No ads experienced like in redmi phones10. Dedicated earpiece ensures good call quality. Some of the premium phones have screen sound technology and I don't find them good enough11. Fingerprint sensor is quick and is well placed. I love this feature12. Phone has notification Led. Many smartphones are giving this a skip13. Phone shipped was manufactured in Nov 2019, so this pricing is not a stock clearing exercise. Phone runs with October security patch. Android Q is assured for this phoneCons1. Haptic feedback on the phone is not great2. Phone misses out on 3.5mm headphone jack. Though type c to 3.5 convertor is provided in the box3. Sound volume from speakers could have been better. No dolby atmos either4. Honor comes with their own type of protection for front and back glass. This seems less assuring than Gorilla glass protection5. Charger bundled is 40watt. Phone supports 20 watt supercharge. I wonder what ill effect could happen to battery and phone due to surplus charge6. Camera's don't have OIS7. GPU performance not as good as Adreno, but still works fine8. Most good phones support at least two android updates. Even though phone will supportt android Q, we don't know how all this turns up an year laterConclusionAt a price point of 23k, this is a brilliant package, specially for those who don't want premium experience cost a fortune.Pros for this phone weighs much more than its cons and is a worthy handset.Prospective one plus 7 buyers can save few bucks for this better package.Realme XT, Vivo Z1X, Redmi K20 prospect buyers can invest a bit more to get premium experience. Please don't compare this phone with likes of oneplus7T and reno snapdragon series which costs almost 10k more.Hope this is helpful!

  • Worth every penny
Imran (Dec 3, 2019) on Amazon
Using this mobile for a week now I must say its a power packed phone with super built quality, camera is amazing for day or night usage photos are better from one plus 7, night mode is super awesome only thing you need to keep mobile steady for few seconds than it shows the magic, kirin 980 a flagship processor playing call of duty and asphalt 9 on high setting a butter smooth experience while playing and I must say side fingerprint is actually the right place for fingerprint sensor, it unlocks within a blink overall am happy with the purchase its worth the money and its sure to get Android 10 as Huawei issue has been resolved with google, honor has issued statement on there website regarding future update. Absolute gem for one hand usage. Note : Mobile does not have IR blaster as claimed by many YouTuber

  • Amazing package!
    Karthik V (Dec 1, 2019) on Amazon
I waited for 2.5 days before posting the review So I can include charging time as well.. Disappointing (for those who don't have this phone) that after 2.5 days of moderate use plus transfer of data from old phone it's still at 20%.. Just woww!Switching from old phone to this phone was super easy with the pre-installed phone clone app of huawei.. Most of the old apps and my wifi was already logged in by the time the cloning completed.. Woww! The phone ships with a 40w super charger.. So there won't be much down time for charging! The only con with this phone is same as any other top end phone these days.. No 3.5 jack.. But unlike the oneplus 7t I own, this one ships with a USB converter for 3.5 output of the awesome audio.. Although audio was loud and clear.. Not better than the more expensive oneplus 7t understandablyNow to the things I'm in awe..Some reviewers who probably haven't seen the phone say the OLED screen is not as good as Amoled screens.. To my eyes.. I liked this screen as much as my oneplus or even better.. Terrific display IMO..This phone is super compact and light.. Which is my biggest complaint with oneplus 7t..huawei has done an excellent job in this area.. At the end of day, what good is a bulky phone despite all the great features..Honor 20 is quite fast as it shares the same processor as it's expensive siblings.. expect to click amazing pictures too with the quad cam and the selfie cam!One of my favorite feature on this phone is of course the meaningful integration of finger print sensor in the power/unlock button.. Super cool.. U don't even have to bother registering the face unlock because face unlock works on any phone only after pressing the unlock button.. Which in this case is enough to get to your home screen.. Simply awesome!!The phone is listed for Android 10 and there is confirmation that this phone will continue to have play store support.. So no need to fear on that count!Huawei seems to aim to capture the market by providing such superb phones at throwaway prices.. In that case, I don't expect to run into many after sales issue.. Neither did I have to ever visit the service center for my outgoing huawei honor 8..which served me well for over two years and yet fetched me 5k on resale!I can go on about this beautiful phone.. But the fact is if you haven't made up your mind by now, I will probably just waste your time if I write more.. Those intrigued.. Blindly go ahead and buy this phone.. Right after you click like on this review.. 😉
