Steam Summer Getaway Sale offers big discounts on popular games

Valve has unleashed the Steam Summer Getaway Sale where it's offering big discounts on games for Windows, Mac and Linux desktops.

The Summer Getaway Sale started on Thursday and will last till July 22, offering discounts of up to 75 percent off on over 2000 game titles. The site is offering eight hour Flash Sales and Daily Deals.

Under the Daily Deals Valve will offer deals on hundred titles for a 24 hour period. Today's Daily Deals includes discounts of up to 75 percent on titles including on Bioshock franchise games, Skyrim, Counter-Strike: GO, Endless Space, Antichamber, Hotline Miami, Scribblenauts Unlimited, Don't Starve, Defiance, Toki Tori 2+,Call of Juarez: Gunslinger and Left 4 Dead Franchise, among others.

The Steam gaming community also gets to vote on what goes on sale through its Community's Choice Voting Sales.

Gamers who buy discounted games get new collectibles in the form of Trading Cards. They can collect from more than 50 new sets of cards, including 10 Summer Getaway Trading Cards that can only be earned during the sale. Each set of cards can be customised into badges, backgrounds, emoticons and other rewards.

The Summer Sale usually takes place around July and offers great discounts on titles released earlier in the year.

For the uninitiated, Steam is a digital video game service created by Valve that allows its users to download games and other necessary software. Valve also offers 'Big Picture', the new mode of Steam designed for use with a TV and game controller. Big Picture had come out of beta in December 2012.
