Earlier in the week, Sony announced PlayStation Hits. It’s the company’s attempt at bringing budget pricing to its PS4 games, much like the Platinum Hits or Greatest Hits branding we saw during the PS1, PS2, and PS3 era. Internationally, this sees a host of PS4 games — both exclusives and otherwise — priced at 20 Euros in Europe and $20 in the US, albeit with different games for each region. India follows European price points (as the country falls under the EU region for Sony), so games on the PlayStation Hits list should be around Rs. 1,500 which is roughly the local equivalent of 20 Euros. However it appears that Sony India has set its sights on a lower price point. Multiple sources familiar with the matter have confirmed with Gadgets 360 that Sony India is trying to get the price of games on the PlayStation Hits line up even lower. This is heartening when you consider past budget catalogues on previous consoles from the company saw games go as low as Rs. 999.

While the PlayStation Hits range is slated for a July 18 release date in Europe, US, and India, Sony India’s plans may change. Though it is looking at ways to get as close to the Rs. 999 price point as possible. This means we could see PS4 exclusive games such as Uncharted 4, Bloodborne, Ratchet and Clank, and Infamous Second Son priced lower than what they are right now.

Sure, some of these titles have been cheap thanks to regular deals on Amazon and Flipkart as well as digital sales via Sony’s own PS Store, but if it comes to fruition, it could see a lower MRP meaning an even lower rate when discounted at retail. Considering the rising price of PC games and certain publishers preferring a higher price tag across platforms, it could be a welcome turn of events for many a gamer in the country.

However, there are some unknowns. For one, other distributors already have a lower price tag for PS4 games from publishers like Ubisoft and Warner Bros., both of whom have their games on the PlayStation Hits label. So it’s not yet confirmed if these games, which are not PS4 exclusives, would see a lower price tag just yet as they’re already at Rs. 1,299 or lower.

Secondly, Sony has stated that games in the PlayStation Hits range would vary from country to country, although the PlayStation Hits page for India shows all the games the company announced for it. Gadgets 360 has reached out to Sony for comment and will update this story if we hear from the company.

Here’s the entire list of PlayStation Hits games.
