Canon has fixed the light leak issue affecting 5D Mark III and the details may come as a surprise. The fix involves putting a good old fashioned black tape over the offending top LCD light! That's right, no high-end technology at work here, this is as low-tech as it can get.

Users who received the first batch of Canon 5D Mark III shipments last month had first reported the issue about a light leak in the camera's LCD panel impacting the auto-exposure settings in dark environments. Canon had later confirmed the problem and promised a fix to all affected users.

While some may term this as a temporary fix, or jugaad as we like to call it in India, the use of this kind of tape is commonplace in electronics. The tape is unlikely to come-off during normal usage, so you can rest easy and enjoy your new 5D Mark III.
