Blueair products were recommended to me by family friend who suffers from seasonal allergies. I live in an urban environment and am affected by dust and mold. After having the 405 running for a few days, I have noticed that no more dust accumulates on the furniture and I have been sleeping through the night without an effect from my allergies. I have a digital air quality sensor in my living room and saw that that the Blueair filter effectively reduced the particulate matter (dust) as well as VOCs which are high in the city. I highly recommend this unit and likely will purchase additional units for the bedrooms.

  • Very quiet, can sleep and breathe at night, WiFi not necessary for use
PRW (Jan 27, 2017) on Amazon
Have had/used Blueair Classic 405 for only a few days in bedroom. On low setting: VERY quiet with pleasant air flow throughout bedroom; medium setting: louder, but probably quite tolerable for most people, including for sleeping - like having a low fan on during the summer; high setting is,for me, too much sound - but it is the sound of air movement, not machine-motor-sounds. Am using for asthma/allergies: have slept through night and woken up with less congestion. Also: I do not use any WiFi in home - settings CAN be done manually. Will update review after a few months use.

  • Most Powerful Unit I've Had - No Outgassing Smells
RETSmile (Sep 30, 2017) on Amazon
I haven't had this very long but it is a very strong air purifier. I have very large rooms in my big old house and many are not strong enough to handle my living room which is where I spend most of my time. I've also noticed that I feel worse sometimes after using some that are. They may just end up drying the air or may be outgassing when they are new. I've had absolutely none of that with this unit. I was sneezing repeatedly and decided I better go ahead and start using it and I quit within a very short time. I have a lot blooming outside and I could actually smell it inside and it was making me sick. This old house can get quite dusty and I have a cat and a dog who shed enormous amounts. With my allergies and asthma, I need this. I researched and remember seeing this product on a television show several years ago and I wanted it then, I'm so glad I have the chance to use it now. I haven't had to change the filter now but that will be a big one for me - how much I have to spend on maintenance. If that turns out to be an issue, I will certainly update. However, as far as the unit itself goes I am completely satisfied. One thing to note is that this is large and powerful. It is not silent, or even quiet. I don't mind that at all but others might. As far as the cost goes I don't know if people will think it worth that price. I do know I've had a few units that were high end that were less by a good bit. Yet none were as powerful as this one. The key is whether it works long term and continues to filter as well as it is. If it keeps me from having asthma attacks and stops me from sneezing and being stopped up, of course it is worth it. Thus far this is a definite recommend with updates to come if there are any issues.

  • Fantastic.
    WonToo3 (Oct 11, 2017) on Amazon
A very substantial piece of machinery. It was purchased because of wildfires in the area that had been burning for weeks, leaving my studio apartment constantly smoke-filled. This machine completely did the job. On low you wouldn't even know this unit is on. On medium you can hear the machine but is not at all bothersome. On high, a speed I rarely needed, it has the sound of an air conditioner on medium. Wonderful machine -- you get what you pay for!

  • Blueair Systems = Top Of The Line Air Filtration, New Improvements Worth The Wait
Dan McKinnon (Sep 25, 2017) on Amazon
As the owner of a Blueair 503 the past 2 years I have a lot of experience using these incredible Swedish air filtration systems and the proof is in the pudding!! Living with major allergies and pets all over the place I can honestly say that the Blueair air filtration systems make a world of difference and the improvements in the new Classic line cannot be ignored. I love the fact that I have a wifi connection and can change settings wherever I am in the home -- the ability to put a child lock on and turn off the LED completely for better sleeping is a big plus that was missing from previous models. If you have any doubts about how well these systems work just look at the filters after 6 months of running and even easier notice how much cleaner the air is and clearer your lungs feel!!!***** HIGHEST POSSIBLE RECOMMENDATION

  • Worth Its Weight!
Carolyn (May 25, 2017) on Amazon
Quiet on low power; inconspicuous and efficient. I am using it the busiest room in our house - our family room is about 20 x 25'. Cut down substantially on coughing and odors. We have a dog, cat and parrot all in this room. The Blueair Classic was so effective, I bought one for grand child to have in her bedroom because she has allergies. Great product.

Definitely a 5 star product. This air purifier is above expectations and does everything you would every want an air purifier to do. I have been using this for about 2 weeks and I have noticed a huge improvement in the quality of air in my apartment. The Blueair Classic 405 has wifi enabled features to allow you to control every aspect of the purifier from your phone! As a purifier works, it kills 99.9% of all germs and bacteria in the air leaving you a fresher air to breathe and live in. Helps get rid of smoke, pollen and all the polutents in the air.Pros:-Quality-Works greatCons:-Nothing but the priceI highly recommend this air purifier to anyone, it works great and you?ll see major improvements.**THIS IS A REVIEW BASED UPIN UNBIASED AND HONEST OPINION**

  • Extremely quiet, but with a fairly large footprint.
    P. Zack (Nov 30, 2017) on Amazon
This is a high quality HEPA air purifier intended for use in smaller area rooms. This filter is incredibly quiet, almost too quiet, as I relied on my old air filter for "white noise" while sleeping. The filter chamber is easy to access, and the replacement filters are relatively inexpensive, especially compared to other air filters I have owned or reviewed. Unfortunately, I have no objective way to deduce the ability of this unit to actually clean the air, because I can only guess if I'm having fewer allergy attacks, or if there may or may not be less "dust" in the house. However, I do run a car rescue and have as many as 12 - 16 cats in the house at any time, and I definitely sense a lower level of allergens in the air as I have had cat allergic friends visit and not have allergy issues. This unit is fairly large, however, so if you are looking for something with a small footprint you might want to look elsewhere. However, I am happy with this purifier and I would recommend this to others.

  • Fantastic unit, barely audible on middle setting. Typical of excellent Blueair quality.
BNCola (Nov 16, 2017) on Amazon
Absolutely fantastic modern iteration of an older model that I've had for many years now.Love the concept of the app which lets you set times (though I never use it, as I always just leave it running). As with all the Blueair stuff, it's top quality, and simple euro design that just works. Yes, it's big, but that's why you won't hear it unless you have it on one of the higher settings, unlike MANY other air cleaners I have used in the past (and still use). The only nit I have to pick with this big, beautiful beast is that there is not much of a middle ground in terms of noise, between the middle and highest setting. IMO they should have added one more level, or adjusted the second level to be slightly more powerful. For reference:Level 1: Absolutely silent, and probably not moving much air eitherLevel 2: Where I keep on 24/7. Barely audible, but you can definitely feel the output/air exhaust from 10 ft away.Level 3: Would only use for "events"? Something burned in kitchen maybe, or a dust storm kicks up indoors :D, but would not be in the same room with it on this setting, much too loud.Highly recommended, and I've even found a couple of good sources for non-OEM replacement filters (not yet looked for this model, but they exist on Amazon for older models in this series). They work just as well, and seem just as well built, if you are worried about cost of OEM replacement filters.

  • Impressed with the app and the quietness
Krm (Apr 3, 2018) on Amazon
Wow I noticed a difference in the air quality of my condo within a day or two, not to mention you can see the particulate collected by the filter. I'm quite impressed with how quiet it is on low, which is where it usually stays. I am also impressed with the functions of the app. As someone else mentioned, you need to manually enter your wifi to be able to connect to the unit but most people should have no troubles figuring that out. I'm not sure how they give a volume rating but it definitely exceeds the room volume that it claims and keeps my whole condo fresh. I recommend it to anyone with allergies or even just looking to keep an area a little fresher, maybe a bedroom as it cleans up that sleepy smell.

  • Helped my asthma quite a bit.
Trevor Goodchild (Oct 14, 2017) on Amazon
I'm allergic to something that blooms in the evenings, and I mean, wheezing and coughing that would make you think I had lung cancer. This guy, while not a cure, has made a tangible difference in my asthma. You can only take so many courses of prednisone. I cannot get the Blueair to join my network to access it's vaunted Wifi capabilities. I think in 2017 that, all electronics should have LCD touchscreens. My cost for a single unit is 35$. What must their cost be? 5$? Is it worth all this frustration to not have some sort of touchscreen? Also, what are the security implications of a wired purifier? Will they do firmware updates, patch the kernel, etc? How about in 10 years?

Extremely pleased with this air cleaner ! The only minus is the blue light that I actually put a bandaid over so my bedroom didn?t glow !!! I?m so impressed with the effective air cleaning and the amount of dust particles it collects which reduces the need to dust everywhere. Fantastic

  • A worthwhile investment to purify the air in your home!
Aviator (Apr 7, 2018) on Amazon
The Blueair Classic 405 Air Purifier is not exactly an inexpensive product! But there are more expensive units around such as the one that stars with a "D" and makes vacuum cleaners, and may look fancier, but I doubt that it works any better. There are also some such as the Philips, but they are cheap looking made of plastic mostly, although they work great, I know as I have two of them! The Blueair 405 actually looks like what an air purifier should look, and is made from metal and itis hefty in weight too.I live in a very dusty area of the city, with lots of construction due to rapid transit work, that will go on for another 3 years or so, that generates a tremendous amount of dust. Since I have allergies, and my wife has lung issues too, filtered air is a necessity that we cannot live without. Now we have an air purifier in every room. The Bueair is a very good product and works well. Setting it up can be a little challenging to make it work on a smartphone, as it will not read the wifi router info by itself these have to be entered manually, so you better know your password, but it will also work without one. I am happy with the noise level of the Blueair, almost non-existent in the low setting, at the highest it is audible, but with a typical noise that one finds in a home it just blends in. The only thing that may be annoying a bit is the sound of "Click" that the relays inside makes when the speed is changed. The cord length is OK too, so no complains about this. The filter just as with the Philips one can be a bit of expensive and may be hard to get. You do not see Blueair at every store. The filter should be replace about every 6 months, but this will also depends in the area you live, and the amount of time you have the unit on.If you can afford this unit, it is a worthwhile investment.

Excellent and I would highly recommend! Purchased this for my mother who is 88 and on oxygen. She is very active so I wanted the household air to be as pure as possible. She also recently replaced the carpeting in hall and bedrooms and with the BlueAir Purifier, she noticed no problems from the off-gassing or additional dust that can get into the air. I highly recommend BlueAir products!

  • Expensive but worth it. I've tried too many to count before this one.
JpATL (Jun 10, 2018) on Amazon
I didn't want to pay the cost, but I did my homework. The unit is almost silent on its lowest setting and the air smells fresh. I am an allergy person and this works well for me. I had Lowes version for many years, but grew tired of buying $100 worth of filters every three months. This system is more advanced, so only one filter is needed every 6 months.

  • It's an over achiever!
Thomas Mattingly (Jul 11, 2019) on Amazon
This was actually a used model from the Amazon warehouse. It worked right out of the box and we have had terrible fire here in Fairbanks Alaska. It really removes the smoke and most of the smell. I've had to work from home because the smoke at work was unbearable so I've worked at home because of the blue Air unit.

  • Very low noise level on low.
Alphabear (Oct 17, 2021) on Amazon
The unit is very quite on low and helps keep the dust down in the house. Living in the northwest we have a lot of ash at times and this seems excellent at filtering it out. It is relatively expensive but we had a cheaper one that was intolerably noisy on the lowest speed and could not sleep with the noise even in another room.

  • Great power and performance, still going strong 3 years on
Deep Thought (May 12, 2021) on Amazon
I am very satisfied with the performance of the Blieair Classic 405 Air Purifier. I also have an IQair which many for a long while have viewed as being the gold standard of air purification systems for the home or small business. The specs on the Blueair are comparable and the performance (as best as I can tell) is similar, but I kind of like the more modern and somewhat industrial design of the blue air a bit better. The app is clunky and kind of a pain to bother with. I have been using two Blue air classics in my home and busineess for almost three years and both are performing well without any issues.

This air purifier?s performance exceeded my expectations. Very quiet on the lowest level. I rarely need to run it at level 2 as the lowest level cleans the air.I do open my home for ventilation so the machine needs to work hard.

    Rbt M (Sep 15, 2020) on Amazon
I have severe allergies and will DO ANYTHING. This filter definitely has helped reduce allergens. Number 1 and 2 settings I would say are almost indiscernible , and #3 is like a room fan. TOTALLY acceptable, and I would buy another one for the other side of the house shortly. It is heavy, I have it on a set of wheels, but how can it do its job without the inside motors etc? Excellent product. Incredible packing, I think there were four boxes, like a Matryoshka Russian wooden doll.

  • 5 Stars for Air Purification and 3 Stars for Poor Customer Service and Non-Dedicated Apps that are Required to Utilize Features
Darlaina Dancer (Sep 27, 2017) on Amazon
We saw immediate improvement in our sinuses and respiratory health when switching from non-Blueair $300 air cleaner to this Classic 405. We love the look of it as well.We want this in our bedroom which means the LED lights need to be turned off; there is a blue LED light dot next to Blueair logo on the front. The other led lights under the lid are covered but there is a light that shines through the side grid work that diffuses all through our bedroom meaning we don't get a good nights sleep. These lights can be turned off by using the Android app but not manually from the machine itself. The company can send you a magnet to cover the circle on the front but this does nothing for the room-brightening light coming out the side. Usually installing and operating an app is so simple that children do it with no problem. Blueair however uses a non-dedicated system so that if you have used your email for other air cleaners or air monitoring companies or similar, you can not use the same email address for Blueair android app. You can not register or log-in with the email address you have been using for years. We wrote back and forth with their technical support online as well as spoke with their telephone support about this issue. Both forwarded the issue to the overseas corporate office who they promised would get back to us within 24 hours; they did not. While the telephone support definitely understood our issue, the online support seemed to have grave issue with communicating in English about computer terms such as website, app, etc. We finally fixed this issue by getting a new email account that will be used just to control our Blueair air cleaners! This seems really ridiculous making something that should be really simple problematic for customers. You can find out before purchasing Blueair air purifiers if this will be an issue for you, by trying to register for an account using the Blueair Friend app; if you can, then your email is good for them. If you can not register for a Blueair Friend app account with your email, know that you will need to get a new email address to utilize the features of this air purifier. Registering for a Blueair online account is completely different and separate from the Blueair Friend app accounts; there are no Blueair air purifier features that can be controlled through their website, only their apps.So in summary, Blueair needs to bring customer service up to a competent competitive level and bring their antiquated non-dedicated apps into current technology standards, but their air purification quality is excellent and I don't have any improvements as needed in air purification quality.UPDATE: So here is the next email from Blueair customer support giving a solution which still requires having a special email account for Blueair app signon and then forwarding those emails to my gmail account. This is sub industry standard.I would recommend your temporary account, otherwise please follow below example."Since the you are is using gmail account. So you can generate multiple virtual accounts. Lets start with one example gmail account mynew.account@gmail.com. Now we if we drop mail to any of the below email addresses, they all would land up into the same inbox of this gmail account:mynewaccount@gmail.commy.new.account@gmail.comm.ynewa.ccount@gmail.commynewaccount+acct1@gmail.commynew.account+simple@gmail.comSo basically all these emails have just one inbox. Gmail basically ignores dot (.) in the email address. And it also ignores whatever that is followed after (+) sign.'To' address in the mails received can be then used to create filter to separate these emails into different folders if required."I hope this addresses your concerns. Please contact us again if you any further questions.Have a nice day!Best Regards,SikandarGlobal Customer SupportBlueair Logo

  • Surprised, Just how Good!!!
Certified Reviews (Apr 8, 2018) on Amazon
BlueAir Classic is part of BlueAir's indoor/outdoor air quality suite. While these offer superior air filtering and a reasonable price, the smart home integration needs a little improvement. We tested both the 205 and 405. Both of these sound like a jumbo jet taking off on the highest setting, we'll run it on high when we're away from the house. The BlueAir Friend App allows you to remotely control the Classic either at home on local WiFi or 1/2 way around the world. The app itself isn't the most responsive, while sometimes having to close it and re-open it for your fan speed command to apply. We also had trouble with both units pairing with WiFi and the app. Even though it told you to hold down the WiFi button on the unit for 3 seconds, it didn't beep or give you any visual representation that you did this correctly. After turning the device on/off, closing/opening the app after 4 attempts we finally got these paired with the app.We also tested the Alexa integration on the 2 available BlueAir skills. One is more powerful than the other. The powerful one allows you to set the speed of the air purifiers and check indoor air quality if you have Sense+, where the simple skill just allows an on/off device in the alexa smart home device list app. Which isn't very helpful as we found it more important to adjust the speed than turn them off. Normally we have them running on low all the time. The Classic 405 is the size of a mini fridge and the 205 is about 20% smaller than the 405. We found after 5 days of constantly running the air quality increased dramatically. We either use the Alexa integration or the blue Air Friend App to control and its been very stable ever since we paired them initially. We also could pair these classics with major smart home hubs like Wink/SmartThings/Vera/HomeSeer/IFTTT as many custom device handlers were written for BlueAir's i series, or Sense+ series. So if you're looking for the BEST smart home IOT integration, don't get these Classic ones, get the higher end series. The filter last for 6 months, 180 days, and the app will count down the days to replace. One the low fan speed setting both the 205 & 405 make almost no noise, but go near them, you'll feel the air pull. We're loving these a lot, but will probably ugrade to the higher end for better Smart Home Settings. Overall Great Product.
