  • great laptop
Canada (Sep 18, 2018) on Amazon
After a lot of research of other laptops, this one seemed to fit my needs which were basically light weight, fast, adequate memory and the right size for me. This fits the bill. I use it for accessing my other laptop by remote server so that I can work wherever a connection is available and also searching on this one for genealogy purposes. Delivery was as promised and I am happy with it. Would recommend it.

  • Great Specs at a Moderate Price
Amazon Customer (Nov 8, 2018) on Amazon
This is a bargain laptop. The core I7 8550U Kaby-Lake processor is the same one you'll find in most high-end laptops these days, and better that the Y processors in the new macbook air. It has a generous number of connections; full size HDMI, USB 3, Usb2.1 and USB-C (3.1 specs), along with a Micro-SD slot and a 3.5mm headphone /microphone jack. The screen is a non-touch 1080P and a backlit keyboard and fingerprint reader. All in a 2.6 lb (by my scale) aluminum package. I have read some criticism of the keyboard, but personally I find it as good as any laptop keyboard and have no complaints. But, I do not write novels or technical manuals for a living so my typing is pretty basic and your mileage may vary. The down-firing Harmon Kardon branded speakers are OK. But in my opinion, people who insist on blasting there speakers for sound either live alone or don't mind annoying people around them. I have always preferred headphones.Needless to say, for a laptop that is almost $400 cheaper than its rivals, there are some compromises. The screen is only HD and not the current QHD on most higher-priced laptops. But seriously, it is a 13" screen. The text on 1080P is already tiny for my bifocal wearing eyes, how small would it be at 2560? That's not a deal breaker for me. The USB-C does not support power or display port. You still need the (standard ASUS) Power adapter to plug it in. There is only a 256GB SSD option and it is SATA-III. Finally it only comes with Win-10 Home, a Core I7 should have Pro. I did spend the money for a Pro upgrade. All things considered, it is hard not to like this laptop. For a light weight easy to transport laptop it is excellent The I7 CPU provides plenty of power for almost any portable use. The machine powers up quickly and smoothly, the fingerprint reader works flawlessly (for me). For my use, I just could not justify paying an extra $350 - 400 for a similarly spec'd laptop. And I have had excellent experiences with Asus products. this laptop is an more than adequate replacement for my 6 year old desktop and laptop combo.

  • Beautiful colour, working well so far
Michelle (Nov 15, 2019) on Amazon
Though this is a light laptop, it still feels heavy in my backpack - I try to avoid bringing it to class.I've had this laptop for about 4 months and so far so good. The only I encountered in that my screen started flashing (it's hard to describe...), but this probably stopped after I completed the regular software update.I really like the colour. I had a mac before this, and though I do miss Garageband, this laptop has been working just as well for me and is much more reasonably priced. I just need to remeber to keep the anti-virus software updated! My cat also loves this laptop - he loves sitting on it and walking across the keyboard. So far, the laptop has survived all cat-related assaults!

  • Screen display is crooked, otherwise solid laptop
Mike Jin (Nov 28, 2018) on Amazon
I bought this ZenBook UX331UA-DS71 to replace my much-loved ZenBook UX330UA from late 2015, hoping for an upgraded version of the same laptop. Overall, there have been many improvements, but I'm returning it because the screen is noticeably crooked and uncentered relative to the edges of the display, and part of the screen actually goes off the display (see three attached photos). In the photo of the blue setup screen, the bottom right corner has a wide and angled offset from the screen edge, something that can't be seen at either of the top corners, where the blue goes all the way up to and beyond the screen edge. The slanted display orientation can be seen somewhat in the setup screen, but is much more noticeable with Microsoft Word (second picture), Chrome (third picture), or any application with context menus or tabs that extend to the top left corner of the screen, where they are clearly cut off by the edge of the display. The third picture also shows a screenshot of that screen pasted to MS Paint, where there is no slant.Pros:Great look and feel -- lightweight, and the icicle gold is actually more of a silver color with a slight golden tint that is barely noticeableGreat price for the hardware -- for a 256 GB SSD, latest Intel 8th gen quad core i7-8550U processor, and excellent battery life, this laptop is definitely a bargain, and unique in its niche price point/hardware combination compared to the Lenovo Yoga series, Dell XPS 13, Microsoft Surface series, and the latest MacBook Air. The computer boots in less than 10 seconds and runs very fast with this processor/SSD combination.Several improvements over the ZenBook UX330UA: speakers are louder, trackpad is less noisy and "clacky", and the keyboard is now elevated above the laptop surface rather than in a slightly depressed section that easily accumulates dust and debris. It also appears to have fixed the issue of occasional random crashes when the UX330UA tries to sleep, an issue that caused me to return and replace the UX330UA three times through Amazon before accepting that this was probably just an issue for every computer of this model (though at this point I haven't used this UX331UA enough to say for sure that it's fixed).Backlit keyboard and fingerprint reader are nice feature additionsCons:Display is crooked (see above). This is my main reason for returning this laptop. The top of the laptop is a shiny material that attracts and retains smudgesTrackpad has some issues. At times it seems to have a lag before the cursor moves, and this doesn't seem to correlate with CPU load. The laptop runs a little hot sometimes, even when I'm only doing medium-load tasks like editing graphics in Illustrator or doing spreadsheet work. With the UX330UA, I never felt much heat even when the fan was running at full speed.Overall: great laptop with a few very minor issues that won't be dealbreakers for the average user; great value for a portable machine that will last all day!

Pros1. Quality of materials-reminds me of the Macs I used for twenty years2. Speed3. Features I specifically wanted-backlit keyboard, hi-res screen,etc.Cons1. Sound- harmon/kardon should be ashamed (speaker placement is awful, too)2. Keyboard audio control requires two hands2. Fingerprint ID doesn't recognize my print(s)- unusable

  • Overall happy with this purchase.
Mauricio Ramirez (Jul 19, 2019) on Amazon
For the price this is a very good laptop.Pro's: battery life is good for light to medium use. While I wouldn't recommend gaming on this laptop, I do run a virtual machine along with the Windows OS and I'll get a little more than 6 hours.Fingerprint sensor works greatDesign is solid but still pretty light.Cons:The trackpad... HIGHLY recommended getting a mouse. It's not unusable but it will make you want to get better at navigating around with keyboard shortcuts.

  • Touchpad was an issue
Eduardo Amaya Miranda (Sep 12, 2019) on Amazon
For people having problems with the touchpad on this laptop try installing the latest drivers.I had several problems: mouse pointer wasn't moving, the it created several phantom inputs and movements, it was a complete mess. Now after getting the latest drivers (Version V11.0.0.30 from July 2019) none of the problems above had happened again.

I love this laptop but, maybe I'm using it more than previous laptops, but the battery used to last way more than a day but now, after 9 months, I have to charge it again noticeably sooner.

  • Nice laptop but a poor webcam
    Eric F. (Nov 9, 2018) on Amazon
I purchased this laptop to replace an aging ASUS UX31A, which had served me well. This laptop felt like a worthy successor, until I tried out the webcam: it is non-HD, VGA, with 480 pixels of vertical resolution. I did not even think to check this before purchasing since my circa-2013 laptop had an HD webcam. If you don't care about the webcam, this seems like a great computer. I ended up returning it since I primarily use a laptop for video conferencing.

  • Screen begins to flicker after connecting it to my Asus Monitor
Calvin Ossai (Nov 19, 2018) on Amazon
I bought this laptop and was very excited to receive it. I was very impressed with the performance and everything about it. I literarily fell in love with it. but after a day or two, I noticed the screen began to FLICKER whenever I connect it to my Asus monitor. The flicker goes away whenever the graphic is launched but continues when closed. I did reset it to factory setting but that did not fix it. I later sought for technical help from Asus and was told to optimize the BIOS which I did but that still did not fix it. In the end the technical support instructed me to return that its hardware graphicsissue. I HAD TO RETURN IT.

  • Affordable product comes with glitches
Amazon Customer (Jul 3, 2019) on Amazon
Ordered product in February 2019. Arrived quickly. After three months infrequent screen glitches occurring. Camera/webcam and microphone defective. Did not realize until end of March because had not tried to use before. Tried trouble shooting from web and contacting ASUS support, but no fix and will need to send back for servicing. Disappointing experience.

  • Good overall laptop, Bad touchpad
Amin (Jul 22, 2019) on Amazon
On paper, the specs of this laptop are great for the price. It's lightweight and it's fast, you get a Core-i7 for less than 1000 CAD which is very nice. And in practice, the quality and the performance was good, but the touch pad was not always responsive. When browsing the web, once every 20-30 minutes, the touch pad would stop registering my 2-finger inputs (for scrolling web-pages) for a few seconds... and I had to wait 5-6 seconds until it was working again (during this 5 sec period, single finger input would work and the mouse pointer would move, but scrolling with 2 fingers was not possible). I did update the Windows, and all the drivers from ASUS website, but that did not resolve the issue. This happened way too often, and it was very annoying, which is why unfortunately I had to return this product.

  • A letdown to previous Asus laptop
Rindy (Apr 13, 2020) on Amazon
I bought this laptop to replace my old Asus Q400a which I absolutely loved. However, for a similar price point laptop to my previous one, I feel like the quality is lacking. The Webcam is horrendous. Its worse that the laptop I bought back in 2013. Such poor camera quality today is, in my mind, unexcusable. Fortunately, I don't use the Webcam much, but since I bought this laptop to use on zoom during quarantine, the poor quality is bothersome. The keyboard has the backlight and spacing that I loved from my previous asus laptop, but they keys themselves feel flimsy and cheap. Additionally, the mouse movement when using the TouchPad is a bit glitchy no matter how I change the sensitivity. It's a bit loud when its on the charger, but very quiet when its off of it. The positives: It is slim and lightweight, so good for travel. The screen resolution is bright and colorful. The overall look of the laptop is sleek. But honestly, if you're looking to buy a new laptop, I would save up some extra money and buy something of better quality if you have the luxury of time, which I did not.

  • My ZENBOOK FAILED 7 DAYS AFTER THE AMAZON.COM RETURN CUT-OFF DATE!
    T-ITUP (Dec 3, 2019) on Amazon
I bought this Zenbook for personal use (light work, photos, internet, etc.) Oct 24, 2019 and I was initially very pleased with the performance and battery life; however, 7 days after the Amazon.com return expiration date, the Fingerprint scanner stopped working and it would not accept my pin. After countless attempts to log-in, I contacted the ASUS USA help line and was informed the only alternative would be to basically re-format the computer. Fortunately I had the Microsoft Bitlock recovery code required to reset the laptop. I was very pleased with the ASUS help line folks, but not at all happy about the "reformat" inorder to access my Zenbook. So, I'm 40 minutes into the reset and hopefully I'll be able to log-in when complete. If the fingerprint scanner will not work, I'll complain to Amazon.com or ASUS. Not a happy camper!

  • There are better options available, avoid this laptop
Ry Law (Nov 21, 2019) on Amazon
I have had this laptop for almost a year and overall I am very disappointed. There are many things that I have tried to get used to but has made enjoying this laptop difficult if not impossible. The mouse trackpad is awful. Speakers are equally as poor. Other reviews have bragged about the battery life but I have found mine to be terrible; I cant rely on it without a charger. Also, it has had a lot of miscellaneous bugs (probably can blame microsoft here, but non-the-less it has been terribly frustrating).I really regret this purchase and would stronger recommend avoiding this laptop. The Lenovo Thinkpad that I had previous to this was much better. I do not plan on ever purchasing an ASUS again.
