Microsoft has announced that it has rolled out updates for six Windows 8/ Windows RT apps including News, Weather and Maps.

The biggest update has been rolled out to News app, which now supports RSS feeds and offline reading. The updated News app allows users to keep tabs on specific story categories, topics, or news sources as per their need and wants. The News app's app bar has also been improved allowing you to view all of your featured news categories, favourite topics, and even top video clips quite conveniently. Support for RSS feeds in Bing News app will appeal to users who are not too happy about Google shutting down Google Reader. (Also see: Top 5 alternatives to Google Reader)

The Bing Maps app now comes with enhanced features to help you find the best route to reach your destination faster. It provides improved driving, transit and walking directions. The app also notifies about traffic incidents, which includes information about construction and accidents. Of course, not all features may be available in all regions.

With the help of the new Bing Maps App you can also save frequently visited places as favourites or pin them to your start screen.

There is also a new search tool available on the Maps app that allows you to locate nearby restaurants, hotels, banks, movie theatres, hospitals, etc.

The updated Bing Finance app now includes an updated watch-list, real-time US stock updates and customisable interactive charts.

Microsoft has added 29 additional sports leagues to its updated Sports app. The app now has a total of 65 sports league covering football (soccer), american football, basketball, rugby, cricket, tennis, motor sports, baseball, ice hockey and golf.

Bing Travel app now lets you book flights and hotels directly within the app and filtering search results by price, amenities and more. With the help of Travel app's app bar now you can even read articles from specific travel sources such as Lonely Planet, Frommer's and Fodor's.

The Bing Weather app now adds support for dynamically moving weather maps for your city or region in a number of categories including satellite, temperature, precipitation, cloud cover and radar. You can also get weather conditions at ski resorts in 24 countries around the world through this app.

Microsoft had announced these six app in October 2012. The updated apps for Finance, News, Maps, Sports and Travel are already available in the Windows Store. However, the updated weather app will be rolled out over the course of the coming weeks.
