The partnership will enable PhonePe's 100 million plus users to now pay directly from their bank accounts using UPI, credit and debit cards and also the PhonePe wallet for their travel bookings, PhonePe said.

"We are extremely delighted to partner with IRCTC which has been a trusted platform for India's travel bookings. Through this partnership, we aim to boost digital payments across India. PhonePe offers IRCTC users the choice of using UPI along with all the other payment methods available on the app for quick and hassle free payments," said head of strategy and planning PhonePe, Karthik Raghupathy.

"This partnership gives IRCTC users a great travel booking experience and also provides the benefits of digital payments to a wider audience," added Raghupathy.

Back in May, IRCTC rolled out an e-wallet service that lets users to book tickets, including Tatkal tickets via the IRCTC Rail Connect app. As part of its efforts towards facilitating faster ticket booking, the e-wallet service has been launched as a payments system that enables users to deposit money in advance with IRCTC. Similar to other mobile wallets, this money can be used at the time of booking. This IRCTC e-wallet service can be useful for commuters as it saves time by eliminating the payment approval cycle.
