Google Play India's 'Monsoon Sale' Offers Discounts on Books, Movies

Google Play on Thursday announced the commencement of a Play Sale on ebooks, movies, and music for Android users in 17 countries, including India. Users in India will be able to avail discounts only on ebooks and movies however, as Google Play does not offer music in India.

The announcement was made via a tweet from Google Play's official Twitter handle, saying, "17 countries are about to get the lowest prices of the year on new titles."

Titled as 'The Great Monsoon Sale' on Google Play India, Google is offering discounted items in two categories. The Play Sale categories and discounts vary from region to region. The other 16 countries where the Play Sale is accessible are Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, the Netherlands, Russia, South-East Asia, Taiwan, Thailand, the UK, and the US.

Among the discounted movies on Google Play India, Ghost Rider, Hellboy, and Universal Solider: The Return are the lowest priced at Rs. 50, while the discounted books range from Rs. 6 (A Cookbook for Diabetics) to Rs. 583 (Cook Now, Eat Later).

Earlier this week, Google was reportedly testing app refunds within a 2-hour window, instead of the 15 minutes stipulated by Google Play rules.

While there is no official documentation from Google about the new refund-window, the users are reportedly able to get refunds on the purchased app for nearly 2 hours.

Google had responded to the news of 2-hour window for app refunds on Google Play, saying, "[We] only advertise a 15-minute refund window, that is the guaranteed window for a user, but [we] do extend the window in some cases to account for download times."

Earlier this week, Google updated its Play Music app for Android, adding a revamped 4x1 widget and also another 1x1 widget that gave instant access to the "I'm feeling lucky" radio. The Manage downloads section in the updated Play Music app now shows the downloaded files along with the available space. Users can also 'undo songs that have been swiped away', while a long-press on a song in a playlist or the queue now lets users move it around.
