Sony India on Monday launched its new Dolby Vision capable UBP-X700 Ultra HD Blu-ray Player in India. The company claims that the Sony UBP-X700 supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision, however it isn't available out-of-the-box just yet. Both the features will arrive soon in the Blu-ray player through a firmware update. Sony claims that the UBP-X700 offers 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray playback that produces myriad colours, greater dynamism, and sense of realism as compared to a standard HD player. It is priced at Rs. 27,990, and is already available in select Sony Center stores across India.

As mentioned, the Sony UBP-X700 offers HDR10 support, which contains up to 100X the brightness of a standard signal (SDR), Sony said. The 4K UHD processor it features is said to offer image quality that is four times richer than full HD. Because of 4K processing, the UBP-X700 can also fully support streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and YouTube. It also supports most of the music and video formats out there including DSD, MP4, FLAC, and others.

The Sony UBP-X700 also features advanced upscaling of all the movies to 4K resolution, which essentially means that the picture quality will amp up to 4K clarity, even if the video is made in full-HD. "60P i.e. 60 fps recording makes sure you get super smooth details, rich videos with enhanced clarity even in high motion videos. Consumers who have 4K-SDR TV can also view 4K HDR content with high picture quality using Sony's unique technology. With this feature every object is sharpened and enhanced in real time, so that one can enjoy detailed images which is perfect for the latest high resolution TVs. HDR-SDR conversion technology intelligently scales HDR's ultra-wide brightness range into an SDR image, maintaining outstanding picture quality even with conventional SDR TVs. Watching 4K HDR films on non-HDR TVs is now a delight as it incorporates additional shadow and also highlights each and every detail on the screen," the company explains.

Sony claims that the menu, the interface, apps and features are simplified for users to navigate and explore easily. It also comes with Dolby Atmos support and DTS-X Support for even better sound quality from paired speakers. It also supports the new BT.2020 colour, which is touted to provide access to wider range of colours than what conventional TV signals offer. Sony claims that the best home theatre system to pair with the Sony UBP-X700 is the Sony HT-ST5000. The soundbar was launched in India last year at a price of Rs. 1,50,990.
