After a long free trial, Reliance Jio has finally started discontinuing services for people who haven't paid for recharges yet. It is an ongoing process that will take a few more days to complete for all; but Reliance Jio has confirmed that its free-ride is coming to an end. On the Reliance Jio website and also the Jio app, you can see that there are only three prepaid options available right now; no postpaid plans are listed anymore.

That means that you have to get a recharge, but the options available are a lot more limited than Reliance Jio originally stated. In September, the company revealed prepaid and postpaid tariffs, with monthly plans at Rs. 149, then Rs. 299, Rs. 499, all the way up to Rs. 4,999 - eight monthly prepaid plans in all, and a similar number of postpaid plans.

In March, after announcing Jio Prime, the company unveiled its Prime plans, which again had a number of options for prepaid and some options for postpaid subscribers. Of these however, there were two monthly plans in particular - charging Rs. 303, and Rs. 499 respectively, which offered the users 1GB, and 2GB of data per day each.

Jio plans and offers

Now though, after the Jio Happy New Year Offer comes to a close, and the Jio Summer Surprise Offer was cancelled following a TRAI order, Jio has shifted focus to its Dhan Dhana Dhan offer, which gives 1GB data per day for Rs. 309, and 2GB data per day for Rs. 509, for 3 months (or more accurately, 84 days). Voice calling and national roaming are free, like Jio promised at launch, as are 100 SMS per day.

Today though, as we mentioned, these are the main plans available on the Jio website and app; and postpaid plans are no longer listed. You have one additional recharge plan now, a Rs. 149 prepaid recharge, which can be purchased by people who have not signed up for Jio Prime yet. The other two recharges require Jio Prime to proceed. Here are the details of the three Jio plans on offer via the Reliance Jio website and MyJio app:

Rs. 149 Jio plan

Like the others, this plan has a validity of 28 days. For your Rs. 149 recharge, you get free usage of the following services:

  1. Unlimited calling (to all operators)
  2. Unlimited STD calls
  3. Free national roaming
  4. 300 SMS
  5. Free subscription to Jio apps

Apart from this, if you are a Jio Prime member, you get 2GB of data usage for the 28 days, other users will get 1GB of data. After you use up your data, you can buy a top up. Read on for details on Jio top ups and other booster packs and offers available right now.

Rs. 309 Jio plan

This plan is only for Jio Prime members. The first recharge gives you validity of 84 days, and 84GB of data. Subsequent recharges will give you 28 days and 28GB of data. This is what you get with your recharge:

  1. Unlimited calling (to all operators)
  2. Unlimited STD calls
  3. Free national roaming
  4. Unlimited SMS (capped at 100 per day)
  5. Free subscription to Jio apps

The 84GB of data (or 28GB, after the 84 day validity expires) has a daily FUP of 1GB per day. That means that the first time you get a Rs. 309 recharge, you will get 1GB per day for 84 days. After that, a Rs. 309 recharge will get you 1GB per day for 28 days. If you haven't signed up for Jio Prime, you also need to pay a one time fee of Rs. 99, which gets you Jio Prime for one year.

Rs. 509 Jio plan

This plan is only for Jio Prime members. The first recharge gives you validity of 84 days, and 168GB of data. Subsequent recharges will give you 28 days and 56GB of data. This is what you get with your recharge:

  1. Unlimited calling (to all operators)
  2. Unlimited STD calls
  3. Free national roaming
  4. Unlimited SMS
  5. Free subscription to Jio apps

The 168GB of data (or 56GB, after the 84 day validity expires) has a daily FUP of 2GB per day. That means that the first time you get a Rs. 509 recharge, you will get 2GB per day for 84 days. After that, a Rs. 509 recharge will get you 2GB per day for 28 days. If you haven't signed up for Jio Prime, you also need to pay a one time fee of Rs. 99, which gets you Prime for one year.

Jio sachet packs

If your validity runs out and you don't want to get a full week's recharge, you can choose from one of three different Jio sachet packs. The plans are for Rs. 96, for 7 days; Rs. 49, for 3 days; or Rs 19, for one day.

All the plans give you free calls, 100 SMS per day, and complimentary subscription to Jio apps.

  • The Rs. 19 plan gives you 100MB data (200MB for Jio Prime users)
  • The Rs. 49 plan gives you 300MB data (600MB for Jio Prime users)
  • The Rs. 96 plan gives you 600MB data (7 GB for Jio Prime users, capped at 1GB per day)

Jio boosters

Used up your day’s Reliance Jio FUP? You can also buy a Jio booster pack. There are two listed on the Jio app. For Rs. 51, you will get 1GB of 4G data with a single day's validity. That's great if you need something to tide you over before the next cycle starts, and just want to keep the 4G Internet working. If you're looking for something more substantial, then there is Jio's Rs. 301 booster - it gives you 6GB of LTE data, with 28 days validity.

Please note that although the Jio app allows you to subscribe to only these two plans, Jio's website also mentions smaller packs such as a Rs. 11 pack for 100MB of data. Also, please note that Jio's website mentions that the Rs. 301 booster gives 10GB data, not 6GB. Jio customer care also confirmer that it is 10GB of data.

Apart from this you can also buy an SMS pack for Rs. 201, which will give you an SMS balance of Rs. 175. According to Jio's website, paid SMS costs Re. 1 per message. Although the higher value Jio plans have unlimited SMS, if you buy the Jio Rs. 149 recharge or a sachet plan, then you get limited SMS.

You can also buy the Jio ISD pack at Rs. 501, to get talktime worth Rs. 435.65. ISD rates will apply, which you can find on Jio's website.

That's all there is to the new Jio plans. Let us know if you've got any questions via the comments.
