The latest rumours across the web are suggesting that Google is indeed planning to release a Nexus branded Android tablet that will be manufactured by Taiwanese maker Asus.

While there is no official confirmation on any of this, several publications have reported in the recent weeks that Google is working in partnership with Asus to release a tablet that will be targeted at Apple's iPad. Being made on the lines of Amazon Kindle Fire to keep the price low, this tablet might cost just $149-$199 to the end-user.

As per reports in AndroidandMe, a US based supply chain executive has confirmed that Google tablet is indeed real but will not sport the Tegra 3 quad core processor as earlier rumoured. The real processor inside this tablet is still a mystery. It might be part of Texas Instruments' OMAP series, which is also the reference platform for Android's latest release Ice Cream Sandwich and is used in Galaxy Nexus smartphone.

In terms of other features, the previously leaked information suggests that Nexus tablet will have a 7-inch display and Wi-Fi connectivity.

A pricing around $149 would certainly result in overwhelming number of sales but won't generate any profits for the company, unless Google is planning to recover the money from its Google Play content.

Google has unified all its content offerings under one roof "Google Play" recently and is expected to add more content in the coming months.  But the problem with generating money from Google Play is that most of its content is not available globally, so either this tablet is going to be launched in select countries or both Asus and Google are looking at huge losses.

We will be keeping an eye on the upcoming trade events to look for further information on this alleged tablet.
