Karbonn Mobiles has announced that its Smart tablet will now come with
Android Jelly Bean on board, making it the first affordable Indian
tablet to offer the latest version of Android operating system. The
company had launched its
Smart Tablet in July 2012 with Android Ice
Cream Sandwich on board for Rs. 6,999.
Commenting
on the rollout, Pradeep Jain, Managing Director, Karbonn Mobiles, said,
"Building on our success with mobile handsets in India, Karbonn is
pleased to be a leader in bringing an Android 4.1 tablet to the market,
and the first company in the world to offer an Android 4.1 tablet at
such an affordable price point. We intend to be the leading marketer in
the Indian tablet market, wherein we wish to reach up to 200 thousand
units per month by focusing on enterprise business solutions,
segmentation, education, healthcare, hospitality and next-generation
business verticals".
Karbonn confirmed that the Jelly Bean update will be rolled out to existing users of the Smart Tab.
The
other key features of the Karbonn Smart Tab are 7-inch screen, 1.2 GHz
processor, 3700 mAh battery. In comes with a 2 MP front camera, and
there are also pre-embedded applications such as Karbonn Smart Browser
and Karbonn Smart games.
Of course, Google Nexus 7 was the first
tablet to come with Android Jelly Bean on board. Some of the most
notable features that this new operating system brings on board are
Google Now, offline voice typing, expandable notifications and
improvements for the Android Beam.
Karbonn Mobiles also has plans to launch 9.7-inch tablet in September, which too will be running on Android Jelly Bean platform.
