Twitter Starts Rolling Out New Search Results Interface for Desktop

Twitter has finally started rolling out its new search results interface to all logged-in users on the Web. The new interface brings cleaner look and adds more filtering options such as top tweets, live tweets, accounts, photos, videos, and more options for users to sort results.

The revamped search results interface was reported to be in testing last month when the micro-blogging site initially made available the new interface to a limited number of users.

As seen in the below screenshot, the UI is less cluttered than the previous one and offers few tabs on top covering the search categories. The tabs are also in line with the user's chosen colour theme. A new 'Live' tab has replaced the 'All' function, which earlier allowed users to view tweets in a sequential pattern. The 'Top' tab now shows the trending tweets and the 'People' tab is replaced by 'Accounts'. The 'More options' tab includes the options to limit the searches to people you follow and the tweets near you. Interestingly, the right side of the new search page on Twitter doesn't include any tabs or options.

A Twitter spokesperson confirmed the rollout to Marketing Land in an emailed statement, "We're widely rolling out a new search experience to users on Web. Like other features, we will continue to iterate and improve on this, to make it even easier for users to find what they are looking for when they search on Twitter."

The new search interface is a major overhaul for Twitter's Web users after a long period.

Last month, Twitter started allowing users to receive direct messages from anyone. The move brought a much-needed tweak that enabled users to get messages from anyone regardless if they follow one another.

The micro-blogging service explained that users could receive direct messages from anyone only if the option of 'Receive Direct Messages from anyone' in the security and privacy settings on Twitter.com, or Android and iOS apps, was checked.
