After the 8.9 magnitude earthquake hit Japan, social networking sites have contributed significantly to help people find loved ones, donate financially and provide real time information. On the day of the quake, the Japanese Prime Ministers office launched @Kantei_Saigai. The Prime Ministers Office has started a similar official account in English @JPN_PMO. Most of the information provided here will be a translation of @Kantei_Saigai. Just like the Japanese account, the English account aims to provide information on evacuation plans, safety information and press conferences.

In the first four hours, the account gained more than 7000 followers. As of writing this article, the account has more than 12,500 followers.
