Google Unveils New Carousel Interface for Mobile Search Results

Google Search on mobile has added a new 'carousel' feature, which presents recent articles, videos and more when searching for topics or websites. The feature is not yet available for all major topics or websites, and Google says that it will come "for more sites soon."

"Whether you're looking for the latest clips from The Daily Show, news about the possibility of Greece leaving the Eurozone, or highlights from today's Panthers game against the Canadiens, it can be hard to sift through all the great videos, articles and more out there to find what interests you. Now, if you search on Google on your mobile, you'll see the freshest, most relevant content from within a single website grouped together in one easy-to-scan place," said Ardan Arac, Product Manager, Google Search.

Now when users will search for a topic or a website through the Google Search app or via Google Chrome, they can scroll down to see a 'carousel' of recent articles, videos or more on that subject or from that website.

"For example, if you search for NPR, you'll see links to all their latest articles and videos. Search for the Knicks to browse content from their site as well as videos and news from ESPN or Bleacher Report," explains Arac.

Unfortunately, the new results interface is not yet visible in India, with website sections not yet scrollable, or browsable.

Meanwhile, the search giant is also updating the Google Play app with the standard white search box replacing the grey search bar as of now.

Google's UI engineer, Krill Grouchnikov, teased the new tweak noting it would soon be rolling out. At present, the change is not yet rolled out to India, and we are expecting it to roll out over the weekend or in next Wednesday cycle by Google.
