Samsung Galaxy S6 to Sport 4GB RAM, Dual-Edge Display Variant: Reports

The Samsung Galaxy S6, the anticipated successor to the Galaxy S5, is reportedly said to pack 4GB of RAM and come with a glass back panel. Additionally, a new report claims that the South Korean company is indeed working on a Samsung Galaxy S6 variant sporting a dual-edge display.

Corroborating several earlier reports, Sammobile cites sources that say Samsung, on the lines of Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and limited edition Galaxy Note Edge, will launch a variant of the Galaxy S6 featuring "two-edge displays."

The report refers to the special variant as the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge; though it writes, "We aren't yet sure what the Korean firm will officially call this special variant."

It adds that the Galaxy S6 Edge will sport the same panel-based system that was designed for the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge. The report notes, "It will have all the panels from the Note Edge including Yahoo! Finance, news and sport panels, briefing panel, pedometer panel (powered by S Health), favourite apps and contacts panels, and more will be downloadable from Samsung's app store. Furthermore, it will also sport features like Night Clock and Express Me."

Another report (via GforGames) coming out of Korea tips that the Galaxy S6 will include metal frames much like the flagship phablet, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, while it will sport glass on both the front and the rear panels. DDaily cites a "Samsung Electronics official" who also suggested that the Galaxy S6 will come with a non-removable battery.

For the uninitiated, this will not be the first time a handset will sport glass panel on the rear panel as several smartphones, including the LG Nexus 4 and Apple iPhone 4, have been seen sporting one.

Lastly, a report (via GSMArena) that includes statements from Korean analysts suggests that the Samsung Galaxy S6 will pack 4GB of RAM. Notably, this is the first time we have heard about the RAM value on the Galaxy S6. We can expect Samsung to follow LG's lead and launch two variants based on RAM and storage variants. LG launched the G3 flagship in two variants - 16GB inbuilt storage variant with 2GB of RAM, and another 32GB variant which sports 3GB of RAM.

A recent report tipped that Samsung's next flagship smartphone will include a touch-based fingerprint sensor, instead of the swipe-based sensor seen on the Galaxy S5. The report explained that the new touch-based fingerprint sensor would be able to enrol the entire fingerprint, "unlike the swipe-based sensor, which only partially registered a fingerprint."
