Microsoft on Saturday updated its Next Lock Screen app for Android with some quick glance notifications, apart from music controls and more.

The Next Lock Screen app, a Microsoft Garage project, is compatible with devices running Android 4.0 and higher, but the new music player controls and instant messaging notifications for Skype, Line, and Google Hangouts only work with devices running Android 4.3 and higher versions.

Apart from the improved performance, memory usage and number of bug fixes, another updated feature in the Next Lock Screen app (version 1.5.10695) is the new quick toggle option for turning off/ on mobile data from the lock screen, similar to Android Lollipop. Since this is not limited to Android 4.3 and works for all Android 4.0 and higher devices, those users will also find the update useful. The updated app also shows MMS message notifications on the lock screen.

Some of the key features of the Next Lock Screen app include notifications for calendar, missed calls and text messages. The app can dial a conference call in a single tap without unlocking the phone. It shows most used apps from user's current location for quick access. Users can also choose dynamic background that changes throughout the day based on location.
