While the Sony PlayStation 4 (PS4) and Microsoft Xbox One share the limelight in terms of news and public perception, it appears that game developers prefer making their games on PC and mobile. This is according to a recent state of the industry survey that's a precursor to the Game Developer Conference 2015 (GDC 2015) scheduled for March. More than 2,000 North American game developers made up the sample size for this survey.

An astounding 56 percent of respondents said their current game will be released on PC. While 50 percent said their current project will release on smartphones or tablets. A year ago, this was 53 and 52 percent respectively.

Unsurprisingly, interest in mobile phone development has dropped. While 53 percent of those polled though their next game will be released on PC, 48 percent expected their next game to release on smartphones or tablets.

More of them are embracing the PS4 and Xbox One compared to last year, however. While games are often developed across multiple platforms, 22 percent of the developers surveyed said they are making games on the Xbox One. This is up from the 12 percent from last year. Meanwhile up from the 14 percent of last year, 26 percent of the developers surveyed are working on a PS4 game.

In terms of the outlook for the future, 24 percent of developers expected their next game to be released for the Xbox One, and 29 percent on the PS4. This is up from the 17 percent and 20 percent respectively from last year.

The GDC 2015 takes place from March 2 to March 6 in San Francisco. For more developer trends such as 'more than 1 in 10 developers making an e-sport game', you can check out the full survey report here.
