On Christmas, Porn Traffic Takes a Big Hit - but Not in India

In news that might not surprise too many people, porn site Pornhub revealed that its daily traffic dives towards the South Pole quickly when Santa comes around. The company revealed in an infographic on its website that traffic on Christmas drops by as much as 36 percent in the UK, 34 percent in Australia, and 31 percent in Canada. Other countries like Italy, Mexico, the Netherlands, the United States, Greece, Brazil, and France all see traffic drop as well, with France and Brazil tied for the number 10 spot with a 21 percent dip in traffic.

The dip is no surprise with most people spending time with their family around Christmas.

However, a few countries actually recorded an increase in traffic on Christmas, led by India which is seeing an 8 percent increase in traffic. Taiwan rose by 7 percent, while Ukraine and Serbia went up by 6 and 5 percent respectively. Egypt saw a 2 percent rise, while Turkey went up the least, by only 1 percent. In contrast, Russia lost the least viewers, down only 3 percent.

The numbers are interesting, but it's probably no surprise that Christmas doesn't really affect the porn viewing habits of too many people in a country where more people searched for former porn star Sunny Leone than for the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The actress is also the most popular person on YouTube in India. And it's worth noting that with a largely non-Christian population, which nonetheless marks a bank holiday on Christmas, you've got a lot of people with time to spare.
