Idea Launches Battery-Powered 3G Wi-Fi Dongle 'Smartwifi Hub' at Rs. 2,999

Idea Cellular on Wednesday launched the 'Smartwifi Hub' - a 3G Wi-Fi dongle or hub that can connect up to 10 devices, and comes with a built-in 1500mAh battery for portability. Notably, Idea has not provided battery life details.

Priced at Rs. 2,999, the Smartwifi Hub dongle comes bundled with 6GB 3G data for one month and is compatible with all major operating systems (Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Linux and Mac OS), says Idea.

The Smartwifi Hub dongle is compatible with 900MHz and 2100MHz frequency bands, and can connect multiple devices (up to 10 - like laptops, smartphones, tablets and more) with download speeds of up to 21.6Mbps, and upload speeds of up to 11Mbps.

The company notes that the 3G Wi-Fi dongle will be available across all Idea 3G markets, which includes Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Goa, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh (East), Uttar Pradesh (West), Punjab, and Telangana.

In September, the company had launched two dual-SIM 3G smartphones - the Idea Magna and Idea Magna L - priced at Rs. 4,999 and Rs. 6,250, respectively. Both the smartphones run Android 4.4 KitKat out-of-the-box and support 3G connectivity.

The Idea Magna features a 4-inch display and is powered by a dual-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz. It sports q 5-megapixel rear camera, while there is a VGA front camera also onboard.

The Idea Magna L, on the other hand, features a 4.5-inch display. It is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor and sports a 5-megapixel rear camera alongside a VGA front camera.
