iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus Production Being Ramped Up to Cope With Demand: Report

Pegatron, an assembler of Apple iPhones, has reportedly ramped up the production of the iPhone 6 on strong demand.

Nikkei Asian Review in a report claims that Taiwanese contract manufacturer Pegatron Corp is "expanding production capacity to handle strong global demand for the iPhone 6."

The report also suggests that the Cupertino-based giant is tapping Pegatron to manufacture the iPhone 6 Plus as Foxconn, Apple's biggest assembler and the only one tasked with iPhone 6 Plus (Review | Pictures) production, has been struggling handle the strong demand.

The Nikkei Asian Review report (via 9to5mac) also quotes Pegatron's Chief Executive, Jason Cheng, who on Monday told investors that the company expected to complete 2014 with $200 million in capital expenditure, and that the figure for next year will raise to $300 million.

It also pointed that Apple's communications product suppliers (including Pegatron and Foxconn) saw revenue grow 10 percent year on year in the same period iPhone 6 (Review | Pictures) started being shipped.

Earlier reports claimed that Foxconn, despite operating production lines across the clock, has been struggling to ramp up production to meet Apple's renewed demand for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Last month, a report citing upstream supply chain claimed that Apple adjusted the production ratio for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus; though the move would not affect supply immediately with production adjustments usually taking time to reflect.

Last year, Foxconn, despite a delay in the phone's limited supplies, gradually ramped up its production in a bid to reduce the iPhone 5s waiting time.

Apple this year received 4 million advance orders for the new iPhone handsets in the first 24 hours, setting a new pre-order record for the company. With such demand, reports of suppliers not being able to meet Apple's increased orders were hardly surprising. Obviously struggling with the demand, Apple had then also increased the iPhone 6 Plus shipping time to 3-4 weeks.

The Cupertino company has revealed that it plans roll out the new iPhone devices to as many as 115 countries by the end of this year. It was launched in the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Singapore, the and United Kingdom.

After being rolled out to the second wave of countries on September 26, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were launched in China and India on October 17.
