The Swedish co-founder of file-sharing website The Pirate Bay was found guilty on Thursday in the largest hacking case in Denmark's history.

Gottfrid Svartholm Warg, one of the world's best-known hackers, is expected to be sentenced on Friday by a Copenhagen court with the prosecutors seeking six years in jail.

Warg's 21-year-old Danish co-defendant, who had already served 17 months of pre-trial detention, was released on Thursday.

The 30-year-old Warg was "found guilty of both hacking and aggravated vandalism", while the Dane "was only found guilty of complicity to attempted hacking," the Frederiksberg district court said.

The court said they hacked into the Danish systems of IT giant CSC and illegally downloaded police files and social security information between February and August 2012.

Warg denied all charges saying that his computer had been used remotely to carry out the attacks, but the court dismissed his claim.

Warg was handed over to Denmark in November 2013 from Sweden, where he was serving a one-year sentence for hacking into the computer systems of contractors working for the national tax authority.

In 2009, he was sentenced to one year in jail and ordered to pay criminal damages to the music and film industry for his part in founding The Pirate Bay website, one of the biggest file-sharing services in the world at the time.
