Wearable technology maker Fitbit on Monday released a Windows Phone 8.1 companion app for its Fitbit activity and sleep trackers, finally bringing support for Microsoft's mobile operating system in addition to Android and iOS.

The Fitbit app (version 1.0.72.4907) is available to download from the Windows Phone Store, and is compatible with devices running Windows Phone 8.1 and Lumia Cyan. With the companion app, Fitbit is said to be the first wearable device to fully use the improved Bluetooth support by Microsoft. The Bluetooth issues in the previous version of the OS were addressed by Microsoft in the update.

With the Fitbit companion app for Windows Phone, users can easily view the step counts from the pinned Fitbit live tile on their devices' start screen. The app gives real-time statistics on the Windows Phone 8.1 device with "automatic and wireless syncing for all Fitbit activity and sleep trackers through Bluetooth 4.0."

The full list of Fitbit's activity and sleep trackers currently consists of the Flex (wireless activity + sleep wristband), Zip (wireless activity tracker), One (wireless activity + sleep tracker), and Force (wireless activity + sleep wristband).

Users will also get calorie tracking assistance, with the recently enhanced food database of more than 350,000 foods. The Fitbit app for Windows Phone 8.1 is claimed to offer real-time and historical data along with graphs and progress tracking, just like the Android and iOS apps.

Notably, as seen in its Android and iOS apps, the Fitbit app for Windows Phone 8.1 uses motivational social tools like notifications and badges to help users achieve targeted goals and also lets them challenge friends and family.

It seems that Microsoft also welcomes the move by Fitbit, as the company has started to offer Nokia Lumia 635 in a bundle with a Fitbit Flex fitness-tracking band for $148.95 (approximately Rs. 8,900) on its online store, an offer valid till September 1. Buyers can choose between AT&T and T-Mobile Lumia 635 without any contract for the bundled offer.
