Microsoft has not only been pushing constant updates to its existing apps like Skype and Nokia Camera but has also been introducing new Windows Phone apps like Video Tuner. This time, Microsoft Research has launched a new app called Climatology for both Android and Windows Phone users via their respective app stores.

Instead of providing current temperature and a forecast for the next few days like most weather apps, as the name suggests, the Climatology app by Microsoft informs people about the weather conditions of different places at different time periods of the year. WPCentral notes that the app delivers the climate information thanks to Research's FetchClimate project.

"Climatology gives you climate information for anywhere on Earth: temperature, rain and sunniness. Whether finding where are the warm, dry places to go on holiday in December, or avoiding rain for your wedding, to finding out what the climate is like in Kazakhstan in April, Climatology allows you to discover the information you want," says the app description on the Windows Phone Store listing page.

While the Climatology app for Android devices weighs 2.2MB and requires Android 2.3.3 OS version Gingerbread or later, the same app for Windows Phone 8 and Windows Phone 8.1 users weighs in at 2MB. The app is available via Google Play and Windows Phone Store.

Last week, Microsoft's recently acquired Nokia Devices and Services Division launched Video Tuner, a video editing app for Windows Phone 8.1 smartphones.

The Video Tuner app for Windows Phone 8.1 brings some more video-editing tools in addition to the ones already available in Microsoft's Movie Moments app. Features like cropping, trimming, mirroring, and flipping are included, alongside the options to add music and video filters.
