MediaTek has announced one of its two new expected 64-bit LTE chipsets at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on Sunday, the MT6732. According to MediaTek, the quad-core MT6732 is targeted at the 'super-mid market' segment. It will be be commercially available by Q3 2014, with devices expected by the end of the year.

Specifically, the MediaTek MT6732 chipset features four 1.5GHz 64-bit ARM Cortex-A53 CPU cores in a 'coherent cluster', which are coupled with a Mali-T760 GPU with 16 cores. The GPU also has support for Open GL ES 3.0 and Open CL 1.2 APIs.

The MT6732 chipset features an integrated multi-mode 4G LTE modem, with FDD, TDD LTE, HSPA+, TD-SCDMA, and EDGE support. Also supported is dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0.

The company is also touting the MT6732's 'advanced multimedia features', such as low-power, 1080p, 30fps video playback; H.265 and legacy H.264 support, integrated 13-megapixel image signal processor, and support for features like PIP (Picture-in-Picture), VIV (Video in Video) and Video Face Beautifier. Also onboard is MediaTek's ClearMotion and MiraVision technologies.

MediaTek earlier in February announced its MT6595 octa-core chip to counter Qualcomm's 800 and 805 chipsets. The company's new "true octa-core" chip is capable of running all of its eight-cores simultaneously like its predecessor, and unlike compared to Samsung's Exynos Octa chip which runs only four cores at a time.

The MT6595 will sport four Cortex-A17 cores and four A7 cores running at 2.2-2.5GHz and 1.7GHz respectively. The chip will run on ARM's big.LITTLE technology along with HMP. Moreover, the new Cortex-A17 architecture is said to deliver up to 60 percent increased performance over Cortex-A9. Much like its predecessor, the MT6592, the latest MT6595 will also support 4K2K video recording and playback, and an integrated LTE radio.

Qualcomm at MWC also showed off the Snapdragon 801 SoC, and detailed its upcoming 64-bit Snapdragon 610 and 615 SoCs.
