Lenovo launches new solutions for education sector

Bullish on the education sector, computer maker LenovoIndia launched new solutions, including laptops and desktops powered byIntel chipsets, and said it expects 20 percent of revenues from the segment.

"The education industry is rapidly evolving tobecome more student-centric and this is an opportune time for solutionproviders to leverage this opportunity. Currently, education verticalcontributes 15 percent and this would be 20 percent in the next fewyears," said Rahul Agarwal, Lenovo India Executive Director (Commercial Business).

The solutions introduced on Tuesday included ThinKCentre TINY,a desktop which consumes 40 percent less energy and Lenovo Classmate+. Pricesvary depending on the configuration.

"Earlier, most orders would come from privateschools than public. But going ahead, we see that changing and more orders fromgovernment schools are coming up," he said.

Lenovo India, which occupied the number one PC makerslot, had a total 15.8 percent market share in January-March 2012 period, asper research firm IDC. It had clinched the top spot by bagging an order fromstate-run Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (Elcot).

Elcot had issued a tender seeking rate contract for over9 lakh laptops to be supplied and Lenovo had bagged a major portion of the dealalong with other companies, including Acer and HCL.
