Smart watches seem to be the next big thing as far as wearable technology is concerned. There are already news reports suggesting that all major technology companies such as Apple, Samsung, Google, LG and Microsoft are engaged in developing a smart watch.

Now, as per a news report by Apple Insider, Apple's smart watch is likely to debut in 2014. The earlier news reports had suggested that this smart watch will be available by the end of 2013. Apple Insider is quoting Ming-Chi Kuo, who is an analyst with KGI Securities.

In a research note, Kuo mentions that Apple might be launching a smart watch but he believes that the company will not do so in the near future. Furthermore, Kou reports that the Cupertino-based company will ramp up production in the second half of 2014.

Kuo says, "Apple may not have adequate resources to develop an iWatch variant of its iOS mobile platform as it would require significant changes to the operating system".

Earlier news reports allege that this piece of wearable technology might be dubbed iWatch.

However, Ming-Chi Kuo in his research report states that the word 'Watch' as a word is a bit misleading for the general consumers as he feels that Apple's smart watch will not be positioned as a time-telling device. Contrary to reports of integration with other iOS devices like iPhone and iPad, Apple's smart watch will also not be focussed towards displaying information from other Apple products.

In Kuo's opinion, the iWatch will offer more secure user identification and biometrics functionality and feels that the iWatch's wearable design will prove to be helpful in this regards.

Kou also believes that "secure user identification mechanism" and "biometric functionality" on the Apple's iWatch could well prove to be the main selling points for this device. These features will not only help in protecting their device but will also facilitate users to make use of advanced healthcare features.

Earlier rumours suggest that iWatch will run a full version of iOS and will incorporate task capabilities as seen on the iPhone and iPad including making calls, a caller ID feature, integrated pedometer for counting steps and sensors for monitoring health-related data, such as heart rate.
